76 550k ...need advice on re-jetting.......I think
« on: January 09, 2010, 07:41:15 AM »
76 550K with.  Bought it new and have it running well.  She's got 10,000 miles.  The carbs are clean and seem to be fine. (no leaks or overflow).

The deal is when I try full throttle out on the road she sputters a bit.  Starving for air it seems...because when I pull the air filter element (all stock with a NOS paper filter) she screams.....no hesitation at all.  Bike runs just fine at idle and all other rpms.  Just get's sputtery over 6000 when I have that filter in.  I did try a foam filter and it made it worse.

This bike DOES have MAC 4 into 1 pipes and I am running stock jets.

I really should be runnin a filter...what do y'all think?  What can I do to get her a little more air at high RPM'S?

A foam filter should flow more than the stock paper filter.  Is it possible you over-oiled it?

Actually i just stuck the foam one in right out of the box.  Didn't even oil it.

thing runs purrfect in all other  (normal) rpm ranges and gears.  It just won't let me  "act a fool"   :)

might be for the best.....huh?  Kinda like a rev limiter for old fools.
