Holiday at the Manx Grand Prix 2006
« on: January 12, 2010, 05:13:18 AM »
Hello
In 2006 some friends and i were on the Isle of Man. We rent a old farm house which was cheaper then going on a campground :-)

Hi Hardi, excellent photos and both great looking 750s! Looks like you got some good weather as well. I have a quick question - the gold 750 has an interesting rear rack on it with side panels - any idea where this rack is from? I am guessing the side panels were to stop soft luggage from touching the wheel? Or were they used to attach hard panniers?

thanks
Andy

Hey Andi

This is my K2 with a "Denfeld" rear rack. It is used with hard panniers also build by Denfeld,

If you need a rack for your bike, take a look to the german Hepco and Becker site. http://www.hepco-becker.de/

Excellent info Hardi - I had never thought of looking at hepco-becker for a rack. Now my next question is what hard bags fit this rack? I am looking for aluminium ones (since they are lighter) but curious to see what you use/recommend?

I saw this old photo of a Finnish guy and like his hard bags but perhaps a little smaller (but not much).

thanks for your help
Andy

BTW - I cant read German but how much is the rack in Euros? Thanks!

Dear Andi

The Hepco and Becker site is available in english. You will get all the parts you want...
See what i mean at : http://www.hepco-becker.de/_eng/frameset.php
At the lower one end of the site you must press on products. Then you can take the navigator on the left to choose your motorcycle modell and then take a look at cases/topcases

Hey Hardi,

Thanks but I had already seen the English site. However, model specific info is in German and they only list the rack and not the hard bags available. Ill contact them and see what they suggest. If you have a specific name of hard bag that fits on the rack let me know!

thanks
Andy

Dear Andi

From the hepco site :

Standard for Expeditions

Not only in the every day use, but also in extreme situations, the aluminium collection „Standard“ provides for ample room and a high quality. Robust and sturdy: made of a 1.5 mm strong high-strength aluminium alloy. Solid: with a strong seam and bottom profile. Comfortable: can be loaded overarmly with two carry handles on the lids. Absolutely leak-proof: a foamed sealing keeps the content of the 37 or 43 litres bag dry. Self-evidently: the same goes for the fitting Topcase with a volume of 35 litres as well...

...New: the Topcase of the aluminium collection „Standard“. With a volume of 35 litres and the same advantages of the side bags. A sensible addition if you are planning a longer tour with a lot of package that has to be stored safely. Fitting for all helmets.
The aluminium collection „Standard“ provides for any Enduro a symmetric performance. With a volume of 37 or of 43 litres.
The aluminium collection „Standard“. With the equal closure of all locks and the symmetric mounting on the motorbike – a sophisticated solution.
37 litres on the left? 43 litres on the right? Or on both sides the same size? It is your choice.
The aluminium collection „Standard“ with quick-release fastening fitting for all Hepco & Becker racks. Of course with equal closure of all locks.
Cylinder lock in the lid; with equal closure of the holding lock and the bag.

Aluminium-Boxes
Labelling Size in cm Volume Colour Art. Nbr.
Alu-Box Standard 38 left 48,5x24x35 37 Liter alu 610.074
Alu-Box Standard 38 right 48,5x24x35 37 Liter alu 610.075
Alu-Box Standard 45 left 48,5x30x35 43 Liter alu 610.076
Alu-Box Standard 45 right 48,5x30x35 43 Liter alu 610.077

The rack for your model K1 - K6 is no. 650.107 and the prize is 288,50 Euro. I've seen that the installation instructions are only in german language. give me some time to translate it, if you like?

Hope this helps - Hardi

Oooh excellent info thank you very much Hardi for taking the time to find that! I missed the part about the quick-release so thanks for pointing that out. Ok I had better start saving then!

I didnt see a price list on the website - did I miss it?

I am looking at the 37 litre bags;

Alu-Box Standard 38 left 48,5x24x35 37 Liter alu 610.074
Alu-Box Standard 38 right 48,5x24x35 37 Liter alu 610.075

Does it say how much these are. Im guessing its price/bag.

Sorry to trouble you with this.
thanks
Andy

Anyway sorry to hijack your thread.....back on topic I was curious to know your impressions of the Isle of Man? I was there in 1994 on my CB750F2 and had great fun on the mountain section and also in the south of the island.

cheers
Andy

Hey Andi

No problem at all. The price for the Alu Boxes is 255 Euro for each side...

Yes, I like the Isle very much, too. My first visit was in 1988 for the TT. After that journey, I decided to visit the Man every year but that was just an idea...
I've been on the isle of man now for about 13 times and i prefer the atmosphere during the Manx Grand Prix.

Cheers - hardi

Wow 13 times! I am quite jealous!

BTW I got a reply from the company:

"we have never tested if the Alu Standard fits on that model but I would not recommend this combination!
We would recommend our Junior or Junior Flash cases for this model."

Ill take a look at these instead. Too bad as the Alu standard look really good!  Thanks for the help.

cheers
Andy
