Topic: What tank for my '75 CB550F?

Hey everyone. New hear. I'm wondering what model and year tanks will fit on my bike? Thanks in advance!

this may be a good place to start:

find your bike on the left hand pull-down menu.  find the part (the tank) and copy the SKU#.
then open the site back up and put the SKU into the "quick part lookup" on the right.  The site will give a list of the other honda bikes which used that same part if there are any. 

although im sure you could get another tank that fits, i dont know if the gas tanks were exactly the same from year to year on these bikes but it's worth a look.

i think its kinda guess and check. my 500 has a honda hawk (mid seventies cb400) tank, and it fits.... but the seat doesnt line up with the tank, and i had to get creative with the fuel line... but it works!

How much work are you willing to do?

The more work, the more tank that will fit

That's true, with some work just about any tank will work. I have found that a CB400F tank works, a 550K tank works and with some minor alterations a CB750 tank will fit. Alot has to do with how handy you are and what look you are going for. I think a good starting point would be what elquenada posted..

I guess I should have clarified that. My original plan was to go through and cafe it, however right now I'm going to be putting a lot more time and money into my car ('66 Nova Wagon). I don't mind at all putting work or money into the bike, I just planned for now to do more of a rat to put around on (It's driving me crazy not having a bike to ride). I'm wanting to something more along the lines of this for now:

So like I said, I don't really mind doing what's needed to make it fit. Will a 74 550 tank match up pretty easily?

Yes a 74 should fit fine.. I had a 76 on a 75 and it fit ok.. Then again I am not expert however I believe it should.

Yea this is a rat bike for sure.. Where did he get the purple heat paint I wonder.. hum..

I did find this, I talked to the guy a while back. Nice guy..  Anyway its a CB750 tank and a CB500 seat and seems to match up really nice..

That tank and seat do look like they match up fine, actually, that's good to know. I totally meant to specifically mention that I have no interest in a purple exhaust haha.

I saw that bike from all sorts of angles it works rather well and the tank and the seat can be had on ebay pretty cheap when they are on there. Yea a purple exhaust is a acquired taste..
