Greetings from what the NY Times refers to as "The White-Hot Center of the Economic Meltdown", AKA Elkhart County, Indiana.
I've lurked here for quite some time and finally decided to surface. I'm a long-time biker going back to the 60's with a history of owning Hondas, Harleys, Triumphs, Royal Enfields, Yamahas etc. My current reserves include several CB550's, a CB650 and a DOHC 750. But my current build project is one the state of Indiana claims is a 1971 CB750.
Now, I may have to request forgiveness in advance from those SOHC purists out there for having slightly modified my 750. It was a $35 roller destined for the crusher that I rescued, and thus I attempt to justify my savage butchery.
Basically, I'm only using the 750 engine cradle, neck and front end to mount a Yanmar diesel single and accompanying continuously variable transmission. The Yanmar is enhanced a bit by a combination of surpercharging and liquid propane fumigation. Time will tell. Still in the build stage, but it's been a lot of fun.
Admittedly, this project is rather removed from the SOHC world, but I pray I'll be allowed to stay. If however, it is determined that my sins necessitate eternal banishment, I'll hold no grudge.
Following is a pic of what I've thus far accomplished with my dull ax. We'll see if it displays.
