open track days at High Plains Raceway near Denver
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:20:14 PM »
does anyone or has anyone done an open lap day at this track(or any race course) on their SOHC or vintage bike?  Ive done a lap day in my car but,  im worried i would have a bit of trouble with the faster newer sport bikes contantly passing me on my little 550.  Its a really fast course. i know my bike meets all their (open)track requirements. im planning on a summer lap day to start and hopefully get started on my vintage racing license.  any info or your experiences would be great to know about.
thx donald

I think there you need to be a member of one of the clubs.   There is another smaller track up noth that for so much a day or a year membership you can run what you brung.  its bikes and gocarts only.  Dirt track right next.  Keep me posted about either.  I always go out to HPR to look around.

I was thinking about High Plains today as I was headed south on CO71 into Limon. They do have open track days from what I've seen. I haven't been on a race course that has any turns except just past the 1/4 mile. I think we locals should get together and head to the track whether or not we participate. Heffay has had his bikes on a track in NM. Maybe we could get in touch with him.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

They do have open track days but you need to be a member of one of the clubs that run there I'm pretty sure. Which is fine if you have all the gear and equpment they want you to have. Plus the $ is very hi.   Thats why I want to take him out to this other track.  Cant remember the name.  Took H&E out there once.  You show up pay your money ($35 I think) and your on the track.
And its closer and not as long of track.

You don't have to be a member of a club to participate in their open track days at the HPR.  I've been out there a number of times with friends that just bring their bikes, tape their glass and go.  Of course you have to pay the $75 to $90 fee, you can do half day as well, and have a race suit, boots, gloves etc and you're all set.  After going out there to watch my buddies I decided I was going to build a cb550 racer just for their track days.

Here is a link to the details:

C you out there..
