341 Exhausts...??
« on: December 31, 2005, 09:38:11 AM »
OK....if these are still available from Honda for about 1,200 bucks, why
are people paying 1,400 for them on Ebay?  Are these sellers just
buying them from Honda dealers and then selling them on Ebay?

I must be missing something here....not the first time. ::) :D

I've wondered that too.

Here's one that gets me. There's a guy who always has 1 new seat for a K0 and 1 new seat for the later K versions. As soon as one is sold, another one goes on. His Buy it now is about $20 higher than what Honda sells them for (no one has ever ran one up to his reserve price before someone takes it with Buy It Now). You'd think if he has that many seats to sell (or is a dealer) he'd get them in a quantity discount, making them an even better deal.

Oh well, this makes it easier for me to set my limits for how much I'm willing to pay. Why pay more for a used item when I can buy it brand new for less money?

Maybe he does get them at a quantity discount, but if there are enough less-than-bright people willing to pay that much for them, why would he want to sell them for less?

Do these come with the heat shields and all the goodies? Wait are these the ones like O.E. on any K model before the discount/economy models like the K8 and K9?

I figure I could pull a pretty penny for my exhaust the way it is and offset a majority of the cost for a brand spankin new set.

If you have never been to an auction....well, let me clue you in, do not take my wife unless you have big bucks.
(actually why don't you take my wife, that way I'll have a day off  ::)  )

I often go to auctions alone to try and find old mc parts etc. One time the wife came with me and bought junk
for MUCH more than it was worth. The wooden stuff is now providing heat via the wood stove. Ha ha.
This also happens on ebay, auction fever I guess.

New OEM exhaust:$1200.00 is without anything BUT the mufflers. Baffles, nuts, washers etc all cost extra.
The local dealer assures me total is less than $1400 all included.

My point exactly. I can't stand folks who take advantage of others.

These eBay guys know a good thing when they see it. Why not flip a seat if there's an instant $20 or more in your pocket. This is capitalism at its wretched best.

I agree, if you start something really low and it gets bid into the stratosphere, then fine- that's what happens. What gets me are guys who have a minimum bid or buy it now price that's beyond what the price is new. (see the thread about the Semi-restored $1,500 K0 Seat..)

$850 for a NOS set is not a bad deal in my book, but alas, the wife controls the checkbook so
I have to keep my rusty, patched up pipes.  :(

re: the Canadian seat guy...

he obviously gets them in large shipments - he has broken from his slow drip of two seats a month to having 4-5 up at once this month - apparently some were damaged in shipping. i'm watching them to see what they go for this time around.

normally he has his reserve set about 5 bucks under his "buy it now" which is 195 dollars U.S.

Guys...a set just sold on the Bay for $850,(just mufflers). I just bought a factroy-new set, plus heat shields/hardware,mounting collars and 'star' clamps for $959 U.S. dollars (including freight and dollar/Euro exchange rate) from the Netherlands. I bought them last Friday; Fed Ex just called to ask 'what are they made of'???...and said delivery would be tomorrow. Stupidly,I did not know that I could still get them directly from Honda. I would rather spend my money domestically, given the option.
Change my name from Dewey to 'Puddin Head',I guess. The pipes alone from this source would have been $637 + freight.

Why are people paying more for them ebay than going down to the local dealer?

Stupidity?

Head up their ass?

Shouldn't have been bred?

Your guess is as good as mine.

My guess is that a lot of people just assume most of this stuff isn't available from the dealer anymore, and never bother to check.
