« on: January 03, 2006, 08:02:25 AM »
I found this while scanning my route to work...

Had to zoom way in to see what you were talking about, but that's cool--especially the shadow on the ground.

I think I've posted it here befor.  You can see my beater truck parked in front of my house--complete with rusty hood.

Using Google Earth, cut-n-paste these coordinates: 41 51' 53.25n 88 11'38.32w
You gotta zoom waaaaaaay in to see it.....someone with a lawnmower and too much time on their hands.

cb: yea, sorry I forgot to mention that you needed Google Earth

Jotor: thanks for posting the picture, Google won't let you "save as" - how did you do it?

SteveF: reminds me of a photo I took in Devon last summer. Someone had "carved" the same word into the heather on the hill of the opposite bank of the estuary.  Unfortunately it didn't come out very well in the photo.

Bob: I guess the pilot would be quite paranoid if he knew...

I have not found anything really cool using google earth or maps, even though I play with them constantly.  But I did find this on Terra Server ages ago.  It is an aerial shot of my old college campus and this is my jeep parked out in the dirt.  I know it is mine cause: A. I never drove anywhere.  B.  I always parked there.  C.  The image was shot the first semester of my senior year.  Now there is Senior apartments where I used to park.

Here's the satellite image taken soon after the Burning Man festival in NW Nevada.  You can tell it's after and not before because all the roads are worn in and very visible, and judging by the size and location this was most likely taken in September of 2000 or 2001.  I used to work there in the summers (building and tearing down), so chances are I'm somewhere in this picture. ;D

For scale purposes, the pentagon-shaped perimeter fence is seven miles long.

Here's the South Pole.  If you go there and spin the earth around, the little compass symbol spins around too..................... 8)

I work for a government agency and we do aerial photography for highway expansion and planning. Awhile back we got some film back and as i'm going thru the film I notice a person in a pool in their backyard........decided to zoom in on the digital image and theres a woman floating topless on a raft in her pool......JACKPOT!!! Needless to say....within minutes...every dude in the office was in my cubical......bunch of pervs!!  ;D

Amazing....we take photos a few thousand feet above the ground and I can zoom in on a truck at an intersection and see the driver and all the junk sitting on his dashboard....and we are a non-military agency.....just think what they have??? I know they have the same equipment as us, but with some extras........

Later,
Greg
