"Rare" Honda Item on Ebay
« on: January 13, 2010, 07:08:39 PM »
Is this some one's Idea of a joke?  Really! I love my Honda's but come on!
Please tell me there aren't people stupid enough to want to buy this. if this doesn't make you shake your head have a look at the seller's other auctions.

well, the guy DOES have a 100% feedback rating. all i know is i would never EVER spend 800 dollars on an article of clothing, no matter what it is, even if i COULD afford an 800 dollar tee shirt. that 800 would buy me a used Jazzmaster or maybe even a Flying V if i was lucky enough. but something that could be totally ruined in a heartbeat the first time a cat barfs on it or the anti-christ dachsund chews it up.

I can understand some one paying $100. or so for a rare old T-shirt of your favorite music group or what ever from their youth but definitely not $800 - $20,000??
Hell I've got a closet full of authentic"Rare" Rock and Heavy metal concert shirts from the 80's, man I could be sitting on a gold mine.

Would a person even want to been seen wearing that let alone displaying it some place. Just looking at the sweat stains around the collar make me gag.

i have 1 very old, very special (to me) concert tee. i got it when i saw SRV open for the moody blues in 1984. i had never heard of SRV until that night. iu was so blown away buy his show, we left after the opening act. NOTHING could compare to SRV sitting on the edge of the stage 5 feet away from me, legs dangling over the edge, playing pride and joy on a natural finished strat. that shirt is, to me, priceless. no amount of money will ever pry it out of my meathooks. but it isnt worth 800 dollars thats for damn sure.

I have a bunch from the 70's sitting in a box.  The Who, Elton John, Alice Cooper, Eric Clapton, CCR, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Led Zep, Stones,  others I can't remember.  The coolest thing is that most of them still fit.  :D

i sent that guy a message forever ago about a reasonable price for that shirt. i used to be a vintage t shirt junkie, never spent more than about 80$ though. i've got some badass old shirts. I wear the same clothes every day now. i used to give a #$%* about how i looked, then i gave up on scoring with hot chicks.

my SRV tee shirt MIGHT fit around one of my arms. between 1984 and 1986, when i graduated i grew 6" taller and 75 pounds heavier. then add another 120 pounds over the next 24 years............

Its quite similar to vintage bikes..

When you arrive at the show, you feed of the reaction your vintage bike/shirt brings.. Is the 72 Ducati 750SS worth 75K? Is the ***** shirt really worth 12K?

Its all relative, we justify the value, because we need and can have..
Will the t shirt/Ducati, get ridden/worn a lot, and in the manner intended.. ???.. probably not, but a few people will enjoy seeing them..

So you see, they likely share a parralell obsession to vintage (high end) bike collectors.. not that hard to understand..
The clear winners, the folks that can find this stuff and bring to market at the high prices, that the market seems to be paying..

I would probably rather have a vintage shirt relaruve to my collecting tastes, than a diamond..

what youre saying makes perfect sense to me. but then, it's also unbvelieveable that motorcycles that sold for a couple of thousand dollars, now selling for prices in the 6 figure range is nuts to me too. but your viewpoint has gotten me to look at the issue with new eyes.

NOW you peeps  have an idea what non bike people think of us when we are gushing about how an NOS KO speedo is worth 1400, or a runnable stock paint ripple tank is wirth 1200.00..

Let alone a  early American  bike for 100K or more..

There is nothing reasonable about the asking price of that shirt. Just because someone pays a asking amount for something does not make it resonable.

It's funny how everyone likes to point out that it's a free country to the ones making fun of someone. But, the other side of the coin, we are free to make fun of someone  ;)  Isn't freedom great!

Seriously though, that shirts pretty grungy looking even by my standards.
