I usually have a box of nitrile gloves hanging around for working on my CB350f.  Last night they came in handy when a cabbie was robbed and stabbed in front of my house.  We heard a commotion and ran out to make sure it wasn't a neighbor being beat up, which is when we saw the cabbie.  He pointed out where he was hurt (couldn't talk well with a punctured lung), and my roommate and a nurse across the street scrambled for gloves (from the tool stash on my back porch), and applied pressure.  I was on the phone answering loads of questions for the paramedics, so I couldn't do much, but they helped slow the blood loss in time to save his life.  He is recovering in the hospital, and is in better shape today.

Lots of video from inside the cab as well as from neighbors who got tired of hit and runs on their cars (very tight streets in this neighborhood).  The authorities should have plenty of info to nail him.  Dude picked the wrong neighborhood to run through.

Keep those gloves handy... you never know when you might need them!

seriously who stabs a guy in the head... thats like shooting a guy in the junk... sorry to hear you were involved. im just a few blocks from there and that kinda crap really hits home on this end of town. its one thing to have "gang members" killing "gang members" (otherwise known as population control) but when they drag a working citizen into their life of b.s.. i wish i could swear on this board...

Yeah, the head stab was pretty lame.  They were flailing at each other outside of the cab for a bit, so that might be when it happened.  The chest/lung wounds probably happened inside the cab since they were on the cabbies' right side.  Just pure maliciousness.

I'm actually glad I was involved.  I couldn't do anything to stop the attack, but between a few neighbors and myself we were able to get him help quickly and apply pressure to his wounds.

Where do you live?  IM me if you want to meet up for a ride anytime.  I'm always game to get some miles under my wheel.

ive been riding for all of 75 or so miles so riding with me is kind of lame.... and im not allowed on the freeway. with my past driving record, ill obey the laws. but if you can deal with a rookie/sissy.... im game. bike should be back together tonight. i hope. much polishing over the past few weeks!
good to know there are still people out there that'll help. more often than not i see people just stand and stare. that or just walk away like nothing happened. wasnt anyone else in this city a boy scout?

oh and i live in the silver/mission area.... but work in lower pac heights/ western addition.... i drove by about 15 mins. before it happened. creepy stuff...

Cabbies aren't allowed to carry guns in SF.  They ARE allowed to record their brutalization for media, police, and politicians.
So far, SF doesn't require a license to own table knives (with a required locking device and fingerprint scanner for access, and a tethering line limiting distance from storage area)...yet.

Thanks TwoTired.  We were all glad we could help the cabbie.  The poor guy had just gotten out of a month long hospital stay seven days before, and was finally earning an income again.  It just doesn't seem fair.

The police caught the attacker yesterday.  He is behind bars for this crime as well as a parole violation for a 2004 attack on a cab driver.
