Favorite bike
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:29:57 PM »
Ok,out of all the bikes you have owned, what was your favorite??Hard to say really,Because with myself and tons of other people out there,Your very first one really is some thing special. My first street bike was a 76 KZ400,or KH I dont remember, sure it was a beater and cheap,$400 from Tom at the paddy. It was really cool because it had a grey suede seat and navy blue with a big white star on the tank and white hardbags.I loved it.took off the bags, found a really cool 2-1 header, lower bars and itwas a pretty cool lil bike.I must say that my favorite was my 84 CB700 sc nighthawk.A very fast bike, shaft drive,16 valves, smooth as hell.125mph 2 up with luggage, and that aint a lie either.Whats yours??

I have 2 that i have owned/own

The 77 Yamaha XS650.  It's a real motor, it shakes, it leaked a bit, and it was super reliable.  It felt like a time warp when i rode it. sorry i sold it.

My 999.  Italian Desmo 90* Twin.  It's fast (180MPH), It's got such a different sound compared to anything out there that everybody gawks when you cruise by.  It can almost go around corners on it's own.  The brakes are one finger pull to stop very very fast.  It's like a road legal race machine.  It's art....the trellis frame, Marchesini wheels, open dry clutch...i could stare at it for hours and sip a glass of red wine.  :)

Well, I really was hung up on the 66' Honda CB72 250cc Hawk (wanted a Super Hawk but there wasn't one in my price range at the time and the little brother was a pretty cool bike though. After that, the bike I really liked was the 71' SL350. But then, last year, I got the 83' GPZ1100 and it is really fast and a blast to drive. Then again, I got the 80' CBX and I will have to say that the CBX has to be my Favorite bike. Then, I got the 80' CB650C and it's pretty cool and all, but the CBX is still on top. 8) ;) GOt a Super Hawk build in the works, but I'm sure the CBX will still be the favorite and I think the Super Hawk wil come in 2nd. The GPZ is pretty cool and all, but I think if I had to sell all but one, I'd keep the CBX. Yep, after all that, the CBX seems to be mu favorite bike. ;)

Will have to say something about the CBX. I've heard several times that the CBX wasn't that smooth and didn't handle very well. I don't know what their problem was, my 80' CBX feels like a smaller bike to me and handles very nicely. It doesn't give me a feeling of having that massive 6cyl engine hanging below me. Just wanted to throw that in. ;)

Thats a tough one. 2 that really stand out are my 2000 RC51 and my 1995 CB1000. The RC51 was just incredible, fast, agile and fun. I got rid of it because I couldn't trust myself with it. The CB1000 was great, big, heavy, pretty fast, not real agile but it looked and ran great. I had that CB1000 for nine years and kick myself every day since I got rid of it. I replaced it with my 2004 VFR800. It too is an awsome bike that I really like alot, fast, agile, comfortable and absolutely reliable. My 1977 CB550 is the classic that I have always wanted.

I was actually thinking of a VFR800 myself one of these days.  I think it would fill in my sport touring needs well. :D  And an RC-51 just because they rock.

I should say, my Ducati GT1000 sport classic was just a nice as the 999.  Great motor (air cooled DS1000).  The sound of the Twin reverse Megaphones firing was like small explosions from a talcum powder mine.  It was a time warp yet wonderfully modern with EFI, gorgeous spoked wheels and set of vinyl paniers... Wish i could have kept it and still got the 999.  Classic looks with the performance of a modern machine in every way.

I urge you, if you have the chance to ride a GT1000 or Sport1000 Duc to go and do it.  you WILL want one.

68 norton commando, but back then i didnt know any better  :D when it ran, it ran like a bat out of hell, when it ran. the commando was like a ditzy blonde, she was beautiful, ran like a bat out of hell. i came from a 51 t100, i still kick my ass daily for selling off all those spitting, sputtering, leaking, smoking monsters considering what theyre worth now. i used to tell dad when he'd find a new oil spot in the driveway. i'd say "she isnt leaking, she's marking her territory. i may actually have another commando some day, when i can afford the restoration and upkeep   :D

My two favorite bikes are something I've ridden but not owned so far.

1986 GSX-R 1100 and 1982 Katana.

I had a chance to ride both of them last summer, Katana had only 14000km on the clock.Very nice bike and for sale but too expensive for me  :(.
