New old bike
« on: January 10, 2010, 09:03:39 PM »
Went and made another purchase yesterday. Look what I brought home. Now the question is. Can anyone identify it?

For those of you familar with British bikes. What appears to be the obvious answer, is not the correct answer. Prior to this. I've never seen one in my life. Two hints. The gas tank is aluminum. The oil tank is in the frame.

OIF ought to be a B40(Victor I think)
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

That didn't take long. You pretty much know what it is, but it's a 1971 BSA B50...

When I saw that bike, it took me back to when BSA brought out the 250 version back in the early to mid 60's (don't remember exactly) and my folks sold got in and sold some of the BSA C15 Starfire Scramblers. First thing they (2 of the guys who bought them) did was to strip them down, mount a Sears Moped gastank and take them to the Scrambles track. Pretty nasty runners back then. Main competition around the Little Rock area, was the Tiger Cubs (200cc, unless an overbore kit was added to raise them to 250cc).

Here's a picture I found online:  A 1960 Ci5 Starfire Scrambler CHeck the similaity of the engines. ;)

Yes Bill but the 250 was lovingly know as the C-Clunk here in UK due in no smal part to the big ends habit of failing!  so what did BSA do------Stroke it and bore it Duh
