1972 CB500 Clutch Adjustment bolt not connecting
« on: July 23, 2015, 02:22:55 PM »
Hello,

I am super new to the forum ect. I have a very frustrating problem. I unscrewed the Clutch Adjustment bolt all the way. Now it will not bite on anything to screw it back in. It just spins and spins. Is there a trick to get it to catch on something or do I need to take the whole crack case off to find what its supposed to screw into. I can tell it keeps the clutch adjuster in place. But what does it connect to behind the case? Is there a nut on the other side that its supposed to screw into that fell off when I pulled it all the way out?

For anyone that is looked at this post I think I figured it out... The adjustment bolt connects to the Adjuster, fixing peace. I guess I need to take the case off and re-attache them. I figure since i unscrewed it all the way it fell down out of place therefore not connecting to the bolt when I put it back in. Now to get the screws off without stripping them....

Ah grasshopper, when you get the cover off it will all become clear. .
The little bolt holds on a clamp that keeps the adjuster from turning by itself. .
Ideally, you just loosed the little bolt about 1/2 turn, turn the big slotted adjuster
and reclamp. .  remember there is also an slack adjuster at the lever and where the cable goes into the
side cover. .  the large slotted adjuster is the most 'coarse' adjustment.
