Blue Headlight for my 81 CB750?
« on: January 15, 2010, 07:29:56 PM »
I have been thinking about getting a blue headlight for my 81 CB750 Custom. My bike's headlight is different than stock. Its not a sealed beam headlight, but it just takes a standard H4 bulb. I was wondering if anybody here has gone with a blue H4 headlight and could give me any recommendations? I poked around ebay a little bit, but I would like a decent quality one that will last, being my bikes a daily rider. Thanks.  :)

First, your 81 CB750c is DOHC, but also, being that it's an 81 it, like the '81 cb650s, took H4 from stock.

As far as blue goes, I don't know that I have any recommendations. Unless you're doing something very new and avantgarde with this bike, the blue head light might seem a bit out of place, but then the bright white of Sylvania Nighthawk H4s might, too.

so... um.  I dunno?

I realize that my bike is a DOHC. Hence, why I posted it in "other bikes". The original headlight was a sealed beam light from the factory. I agree that the blue headlight would look goofy on a stock CB750C. But, believe me, mine looks nothing like a stock CB750C at all. I think the blue headlight would complement the style very well. I'll post a picture up one of these days, when it drys out.  ::) My brother has an 80 CB750K with a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra and it is blindingly bright even on low beam.

oh cool.  Sorry about the dumb post, it came up in "unread posts since your last visit..." and I didn't even see the 'other bikes' thing. Duh. ::)

Anyway.... I think PIAA makes some blueish ones for high-vibration use, and they always seem to be a decent brand.

no biggie.  ;) This spring will be 3 years that ive owned the bike, and i only replaced the headlight bulb once when I first got it. When I was looking on ebay, they had alot of different looking H4's. But, maybe I'll go to Autozone or Pepboys and see if they can match me up one. PIAA makes nice quality stuff for all kinds of lighting, so maybe I'll try and find a blue H4 from them.

Car H4s and bike H4s are different.  The reflectors are in different positions.

oh, I'm talking about just the standalone bulb.  The honda shop I go to has them in single packs like this
and they do 60/55w

I like the look of those Kit. Maybe I'll take a look at PIAA's website. I'd like to see a demo pic.

Straight from PIAA's website: "
The very popular Xtreme White Plus technology is now available in H4 style bulbs. Rated at 4000K and providing 110watts of light from only 55watts these bulbs will provide a brilliant Xtreme cool white light that will light up road hazards and street signs long before a normal halogen bulb. The Blue topcoat on these bulbs adds a slight blue tint to the lamp for enhanced curb appeal."

Im kind of looking for more blue than a slight tint.

you'll have to go with HID then.  I was actually just going to start looking up HID use on our bikes, because I'm not really clear on whether our reflector-style buckets will work with HID or if we'd have to come up with some kind of projector system.
