    This is my thoughts on how I'm going to proceed on this build and, as you can tell, I don't have all of the details ironed out yet. I don't thonk this is quite ready for the Projects Forums (and I'm not sure it belongs there anyway, since it isn't a SOHC4. SOHC- yes 4- no. ::) )

      I'm have been tempted to put a disc brake on the front of this bike (with a different set of fork, but I just don't think it would do the bike justice, you know? I'm wanting the look of a Vintage Super Hawk, with some subtle modifications that won't distract too much from " the period" look, if you know what I mean? Soon, I will have my extra bedroom set up for building the engine and, as I am thinking about it, I think I am going to move ALL of my Supper Hawk Parts in there and try to do more on the mockup, to get it closer to what I want to do with this bike. And, I WILL work on getting pictures to document the changes I am going to make. Now, there WILL be a few changes that I am not going to reveal until the time is right. Got to have SOME surprises, right? :D I will be using the original frame, wheels (far as I know now), forks (far as I know now), NO side covers (for air cleaners), custom aircleaners (probably pods (or a resemble facsimile), Honda CB350 Headlight shell, 350 Gauges (combi nation of early 450 gauge mount and the 350 mount combined), Stock Super Hawk Fenders (I actually got an uncut front fender, remember?), Super Hawk gas tank (with side panels and rubber knee pads), stock exhaust pipes (think I'd like to do CL exhaust pipes w/ the megs) (Oh, yes I have a set of the old CL exhaust pipes that are rotted toward the ends, so cutting them off would not be the wrong thing to do) , Thinking about megaphones for mufflers, 450 Carbs adapted, maybe a 5sp trans (Yeah Steve, I wish I could afford to get a 450pDOHC top end adapted to it, but funds make it impossible), hydraulic steering damper from a CL77 (still have to make or acquire mounts for that), Still not positive on the the actual paint scheme and final choice of colors. I Do have a few ideas, just have to narrow them down. Oh and I have a custom seat that was actually for the CB750 SOHC, but will do nicely on my Super Hawk. Still want to hide electrics and battery as much as possible and the seat doesn't have a place for that either. Now I Do have an unfinished custom fiberglass seat shell (with no pad yet) that I got from a SOHC4 member a couple of years back, that I could work up AND put the electrics under the rear of it. We'll just have to see how things turn out. 8-

 as well (and , at this point, I'd like to say that ANY photos that ANYONE might have or know of, will be more than welcome. None of my plans are set in concrete, except that the bike I'm starting with is a Super Hawk! ;D )

Where and when did I miss the info on how to adapt 450 carbs? I have heard of CB450 head modded to fit but don't remember the details. Have any info on those?

           Kevin, I got those photos AND info from a fellow over on the 305 forums about a tear or 2 ago and quite by accident. I was actually looking (at that time) for info about mounting a CB160 front fender on the Super Hawk, as I had seen some done and since I had not come up with the Super Hawk front fender (uncut), I thought I had a CB160 front fender and was looking to mount it up. Only thing is, I actually had a pair of Suzuki X-6 Hustler fenders, not CB160. ::) Anyway, I was sent some photos by this fellow and I happened to notice that his 305 was sportin' 450 carbs. It had been at leasst 30yrs since he'd done that to his Super Hawk and could only tell me the basics. But, I believe I can do it with that info. I'll get back to you on that. As far as putting the 450 top end on the 305 crankcase, I can't seem to get too much detail on that, except there is quite a bit of aluminum welding and machine work involved. Now, I do have a lead on putting the Suzuki GS400 topend on the 305 crancase and it's quite involved as well though.

    Pretty wicked looking, Thanks for posting. 8)  Have you got any more photos? ???

   I'm  not much for the hump on the seat and I'd rather figure out a way to tastefully put the tail light on the rear of the bike and not on the side. I KNOW that alot of folks put the tail light on the side, to keep the rear fender (or seat) clean, but (my OWN opinion) when the tai light is put off on the side of the bike, I feel like it makes it look like all of a sudden it was realized that they forgot about it and just stuck it where they could (again, my OWN opinion). Other than that, I like that look and am looking for little things to make it different , but not Strange or Gawdy looking. I've always felt that it really takes alot of thought and effort to make a bike stand out with features that are different, but yet tasteful, you know?

   I'd like to say that I welcome ALL suggestions and opinions, but please don't get offended if and when I explain why I might not be in for what ever feature of a bike that YOU might offer. There needs to be GIVE and TAKE on a thread like this and I've seen folks get into it over them. I don't want it to happen here. I respect everyone's right to their opinions, likes and dislikes AND I also have likes and dislikes. That's just natural. ;) 


       For example, I really like the look of this Cl, but I am too old to comfortably handle the hardtail AND there's that side mounted tail light. :-\

        

       

       

   This one is pretty mean looking, but I can't swing a gas tank like that. :-\

     

   Not MY idea either, Sorry Hush. Couldn't afford to go that route anyway. :-\

      

     Too much chrome for my taste and can't swing a FULL resto anyway. :-\

           Oh Yeah, I remember you posting yours. And A really sharp example it is. 8) Had a 66' CB72 back in 68' myself. Don't really have the funds to do one up stock though. Thanks for posting, ALWAYS good to see the Super Hawks that are out there too! :) I've been nuts about them since I saw my 1st one back in the early 60's. ;)

    Oh No, my meager budget wouldn't allow for one of those. I have a good source who says that the  5sp trans from the 68' (before Honda mad any improvements) Honda CB/CL350 can be fitted in the Super Hawk case. I HAVE one of those trans. and as soon as I can, am going to attempt to put that theory to test. It had been years since this was done and the info is sketchy, but if all goes well, I will need to raise the over all ratio because I am told the the 350 trans has a lower gear ratio. IF it doesn't work out, I will be "Xing" 2nd and 3rd gears to make a Close ratio trans out of the original one though (as YOU know, I found that out on the 305.com forums). Time will tell, about the 5sp trans deal. If I had the bucks, I'd try to get one of those though AND top it off with the 450 topend conversion! ;)

I have a friend who purchased a 305 scrambler from a member on this board. the bikes is "as expected" .

Minor problem is it looks like the entire lower end of the motor/transmission is pretty shot.

He has it apart the frame & parts are at the painter.

Has asked me to help find him motor parts so I have posted in parts wanted... waiting for a response.

This thread is about the same bike, so I am asking here.

 Yeah, I saw the post about needing an engine or at least a lower end & trans. I've got a fair amount of parts myself, but don't know exactly what I'll need for what I want to do.

 I Do wish him luck on finding what he needs, without having to pay an arm and a leg to get it. Are you all members of the 305 forums as well? Might be some parts available there as well.

  Be interesting to see the Super Hawk too. I've long been a fan of those bikes too!

  If I see or hear of anything, I'll let you know. :)

My avitar is a friend's bike that I helped to finish. Yes, the Suzy 400 top end has the same stud pattern and slips onto a 305 but I do not know the required machine work. Also, if a 5-speed will fit (and I think I heard from the same source as others on the honda305 board a few years ago) that a 6-speed from a CL360 will also fit with some machine work to the cases. More later............

           I know of the fellow who DID the Suzy mix that I posted the photo of and here is a link to his site:   http://home.comcast.net/~eholman/ He is a member on the 305 forum AND here as well. He told me some of the details AND said that there was alot of welding done to the CB77 crankcase to accomplish this. I assume a fair amount was for reinforcing to accept the stress. Either way (Suzuki or the Honda 450DOHC) would be cool and performance increase would be really good as well. 8)
