Hiring someone to help - Sometimes not all its cracked up to be
« on: January 04, 2006, 03:29:39 PM »
This world I know from hiring people before for two businesses that I have owned. One a landscaping business which I sold, and a "special"  ::)  ::)  :o club which I also sold.

I am on business number 4. Number 3 is Concept Photography.

Now I am parting bikes (Anubis Cycle). I posted an add on postaroo.com. It is amazing the stuff that is coming out of the woodwork. I can tell there are not too many keepers for empolyment. Many run thier mouth too much. Many have way too much prim attitude. I guess all business hiring is the same.

Guy one decided to be slacked for two weeks before he would start.  ???

Guy two who ate up 30 mintues of my cell time boasted about how great he was on eBay sell (lazy fix) bikes and junk.

Guy three was a guy I would problably sock in the face, no details needed - it was just bad.

It appears that these guys just want someone to load up the ole' wheel barrow of monney and dump it in thier lap without doing anything.

I HATE SLACKERS  >:(

I am not a slave driver to work for. For work times I want tangible work done, for slack time it is the same. Trust me I like my down time too. When I ran the landscaping Concept Lawn Services, we ran like slaves (me included) until long after the sun went down. However I would pay guys for the TIME over lunch and many times pay for lunch itself. If they worked long I did the same for dinner. I expect a honest days work from my people, I expect WAY MORE from me. I always out work my employees, always have. I remember times that I was cutting grass at 11:30 pm on a commercial lot by myself (they never complain about noise).

I was also the fool that would give good employees pay adavances to make things right when they did a financial boo boo.

Hiring people sucks....... At least fo physical labor

The "Special-Club" Employees were much more fun to hire if you know what I mean  :o ::)

One of your other posts gave a clue to another company name; Viscious Cycle

Anyway, I have all the experience in customer service you'll ever need and I need a job. Too bad you're nowhere around here.  Good luck.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

I guess it is a vicious cycle  ;). Too bad I seem to be too far from just about any forum members. Terry could fly in with the next snow fall make some snowmen and pull parts  ;) He would get what he wanted both ways.  ;D

I have another guy that will be calling tommorow. He already sent an email from the postaroo add.

See I dont need a rocket scientist but someone who was knowledgeable  in many levels would be very helpful as I hate to have to hold his hand and teach him everything. If I have to go that far I could do it myself, but in the end I would also have an employee that knows exactly what to and not to do. However someone with previous background could get there in 5 days or less.

El Cheapo,

my previous business was owning running a fast food business - not a golden arches thing or anything like that, but as you say it's hard to find someone who will work as hard as yourself... they just don't give a rats..... about your business, because it's not their business, irrespective of the money and inducements you pay out, but if you do find a good one... don't let em leave easy, they work as good as two new ones you have to find and train..

How about you just sell me all these junkers you have laying around and I'll drive the 200 miles down and pick 'em all up. I'll even buy ya lunch! I need more junk, er, stuff, er, I mean spare parts. Can never have to much.

Parting bikes out makes me cry though. I feel bad for the bike. I mean it just has to know that it will never hear the hum of its tires on the pavement ever again.  :'(

I'll tell ya what. I'll race ya parts for parts. I'll take something from the "junkers" and race it against one of your "junkers". Winner takes all.  ;D

Ok I'll roll out my VF1100S right now in the dead of winter across the nearest wide open space, say a frozen lake?  And race ya on that interceptor. I might have an unfair advantage though.

I met with the one guy. It was a long interview. It was a good interview. He is a fellow biker and a Honda nut (is there any other kind?). I guess he is trying to get back to work after a workmans comp deal. He seems to know his way around pretty good. He understands the importance of metering the cream back a bit to make sure you have a constant income while we sell all the $10 parts at the same time. Whats more is when out at the storage he is willing to bring his own generator and small aircompressor. ;D Sweet....

I am waiting to hear back from him. So we will see how it goes.

After a week of interviewing losers and semi-losers I am back to my original guy. Why you ask? Because I know for fact he will not steal from me and will work like a mule if I can just get him in place. Once he sees money I will have to kill'em to make him go away. Kind of like Mafia Family  ;) ;D
