Turn signal replacement on a CL350?
« on: January 16, 2010, 09:33:37 PM »
Hey, ran into an interesting issue tonight putting the new turn signals on...

the ones I got are two-filament signals with three wires- red, b/w, and black.  We went to put them on the bike and on disconnecting the originals (which worked just fine) we discovered they were only connected with one wire.

The question here is:  We hooked that one wire up to each of the three wires protruding from the new turn signal with nary a spark of life. What's going on here?  I'm guessing the old ones grounded through the stalk itself, but how is that going to translate into our use?

Thanks :)

You need to test with a digital muti meter.

I think your new turn signal is going to have one wire that will be your ground & two are going to be for the lamp filaments.

You may have to remove the lens & bulb.  Put your meter probe to the outside of the lamp holder & the other probe to one of the three wires. ( meter is on resistive X1 scale ).You should have one that shows connectivity. That wire will have to go to the frame. The other wires you will have to choose if you want both on or just one on. One will be brighter than the other, and that will go to that one wire of the old turn signal.

Your old one-wire signals did indeed ground through the "stalk" - your new one have running lights built in, thus two filaments.
Your 350 is not wired for the new ones.........if there are 3 wires, one is ground, one is running light, the other is the turn signal.
You can rig it up to work as a turn signal only, just  figure out which wire is which. Run the ground to any available green wire on your 350, the turn signal wire to orange or light blue, ignore the 3'rd......

OR... Plug both the running and turn signal wires together so that both filaments light up the signal is on (and then ground the ground wire as tbpmusic says).
