Thanks, like you I am not doing anything to radical. So far I know Spikeybike, Deftone and Possiably CaptinKirk are all going to rockerbox in Milwaukee in June, I am also going to go and I am trying to get everyone to ride together. I believe also the crew from HalfFast will probably also be there. It would be cool to go in a pack if I can arange it.

Well the month of May saw no progress whatsoever. We spent the first two weeks in Scotland then came home to find out I was out of a job. The rest of the month was spent working on the resume and getting it out to as many businesses as possible.

June has been much better I installed new coils, cut the wires to length and added new caps. I've also been working on the wiring I've got almost all of the connections made just need my headlight bucket back from paint to finish everything up. This guy is taking forever and has started giving me lame excuses. I won't post the name of the shop here...yet as I still want to receive my parts! I also put on the 4 into 1 Mac header today and the foot pegs- I was hoping to do rear sets but will have to wait due to budget constraints.

Brand new to the forum today. Just got a cb750 free. Buried in a back yard for years. I hope to do half as good as you did with paint, fantastic job. What did you use to do the wheels? Chrome in a spray can? Pics next week.

alaskahomes- I hope you have as much fun as I have had on this project on yours I new nothing when I started and with the help of this forum I have been able to get over the hurdles. Looking forward to seeing your build on the forum.

Zaipai- not to worry this project WILL be completed and ridden and if it has to be sold to pay the mortgage then so be it I'll do another project next year. Besides I've got all this free time on my hands there is no way I couldn't work on it!

Architect- thank you for the compliment it has been a labor of love as many members of the forum have experienced. I am in the home stretch now. Today I bench synced the carbs and installed them on the engine I was concerned it was going to be a struggle but they went right on. I also drilled my clubmans for the control wiring the throttle side was easy and I was able to pull those through the center of the bars but the clutch side was a bear. I ended up making anther hole after the bend still a clean look but not what I was hoping for.

Tomorrow I'll connect the control wiring and hook up the front brake and with any luck have them bled by the end of the day and working great.

P.S. doesn't your bracket look great?

Hednut- talk to the architect who has posted on this build above he'll hook you up with the primo gauge mount.

I'm sitting here having a chuckle at my expense- the wiring on this bike had seen better days but I went through and cleaned every contact then lubed them with some dielectric grease. First I wired in the new LED bake light without a problem the turn signals were missing so I traced the wires and hooked up the LED replacements I purchased, added an electronic flasher etc. and they worked. The funny part is the tail light function of the new brake light now flashes WITH the signals! The brake light functions normally only the tail light is affected. I laughed out loud and thought I should share... just when I was pleased with myself for sorting the electrics.

Now I'm off to search the forum for an answer to the problem I guess it has to have something to with the ground but have no clue chime in if you have a guess or a solution or just want to laugh at my expense!

EDIT: I used a three prong electronic flasher and used the spare ground by the battery box... I think a 2 prong electronic may be a solution but still searching the forums for an answer...

I will watch out for this. I hooked up my wiring and noticed that the turn signals where not flashing, so I went to my local auto store picked up a 3 prong flasher relay because in the book it shows 3 prongs.. Well now all my lights (headlight, tail, brake, gauges, indicator lights) flash to the turn signals, its almost not noticeable, you have to look hard but they are flashing.. I can not figure it out.. If however I find something first I sure will post it here.. Great work on your bike BTW ..!

I solved my problems and now everything works as it should. Because the PO('s) made modifications to the wiring over the years not everything matched the wiring diagram. The short story is after unplugging and replugging the wires per the diagram from the turn signal perch and making sure ALL connections were solid I was left with a brown with blue stripe from the TS perch and 1 black female and 1 brown female connector form the main wire harness. I eventually made a jumper to connect both of these and everything worked. Not sure how correct this is but it works...

Be patient and work the problem it took me a few nights a little bit at a time to get mine right

Now I have to fix the fork seal that has suddenly appeared. Tomorrow is another day...

I still don't have my tank, side covers or head light bucket...they received the parts APRIL 13th and all I'me getting is "next week"

I am not sure what they are doing with that stuff, however it seems 2 months should be enough time.. Keep calling them every time it should be at your house and its not..

Thanks for the wiring tips, its exactly what I had planed to do.. Its gonna wait as long as it can tho, I am enjoying riding it even tho I am not riding it as much as I want.. stupid rain, and work!!

Too bad for the rain for both of us! The fork seals took me about 4 hours this included:

supporting the front of the bike on jack stands, removing the brake caliper and wheel then dropping each tube. The disassembly was a pain I couldn't get one of the bottom bolts to back out even using the broom handle technique and then I couldn't get the snap ring out because I have crappy circlip pliers. I broke one set and had to "fix" another set to get the second clip out...anyway I took the claw end of my hammer to the end of the broom stick to rough it up a bit for some traction and that worked. Tomorrow I will add brake fluid and bleed I was going to do this a couple of weeks ago but that's when I noticed the fork seal leaking so it was postponed. After that I'll put the chain on after I clean and lube it of course. I'll take some more pics to post cause this is getting a bit wordy.

Okay the brakes are bled and the chain is on/wheel adjusted the clutch cable arrived today all I am waiting for now are new throttle cables and of course my MIA tank, side covers and headlight bucket.

Can't wait to see it all together (and hear it) when the painted goods arrive.

Thanks Traveler it is finally coming together and starting to look good if I do say so myself. I'm not sure about the positioning of the clubmans but I'll have to wait until the tank is in place to be sure. The tank and side covers are at the painter he's had them since April 13th. I knew he'd be busy so I figured 4-5 weeks for him to acid wash, kreem coat and paint everything or at least that's what I thought we're on week 9 and counting...

Its looking really good man. Your seat is way better then mine, I wish I bought that one..

Keep on those painters.. Call them and ask them if they are too busy to do them, if so you would be more then happy to get some one else to paint them. You want them soon as its holding up your project and need to get them done. This I find works very well.. 9 weeks is just too long for such a small paint project..

Traveler: I am going with stock paint scheme (though not for 75) as I wanted to keep the stock look cafe next time I'll probably go for the custom cafe look.

This weekend I took my horn button apart to clean the corrosion for better contact with my new economy horn and added the bar end mirrors simply because I was board. really itching to get everything completed and riding!

Thanks Zaipai it really is coming together I like the seat too! I didn't want the typical hump seat for this bike though I do like them a lot plus the price was right. I emailed my paint guy yesterday asking if he made his third completion date or failed again...well everything was not completed by the end of the week as promised...AGAIN. He said all that is left is the clear coat and polishing and everything will ship by Wednesday or Thursday this week. Unfortunately that probably means the parts won't arrive until Monday I'll email him and tell him to over night them since it took so long I really want to get the bike started and begin the tuning process.

OKAY--- just received another email from my painter while typing this and for something that is supposed to only need clear coating he asked a lot of paint oriented questions....like how do these stripe decals go on and do you want black in the center?

This is the builds biggest hiccup so far except maybe when I dropped the motor off the stand while cleaning! I can't say it enough this forum is a great resource and helped me from start to finish.

Starting a new job today so have to get going but I plan to ride up to Rockerbox in August hopefully we can park our projects close to each other and have a good ooh and ahh session.

I have finally seen some progress form my painter and the results are less than desirable. I requested orange flake candy with black and this is what I got.....

He says its not a good photo because of the clear coat but every picture of other paint jobs manage to be close to the proper color.

I am at a loss as to how to proceed getting my money back will be tough and I don't want to wait another 9 weeks for him to get the color right.

Seriously frustrated.

I don't care how bad the picture is, there is NO metal flake in there. You may want to just get it back and deal with it later. With the pin striping like FFJ mentioned it should look ok until you can deal with it.

Just don't let him charge you for metal flake when there is none.

I really don't give a #$%* about the paint any more I just want my parts back.

I'll post some of the "highlights" from the emails in another thread at some point but until I get my parts mums the word.

It is now July 1st the parts have been in their hands since April 13th that's 11 weeks and counting. At this rate I won't make Rockerbox in August if I wait for the paint to be right.
