it's an 80 Classic...kinda fugly but hey it was free! Was my bro-inlaw's but he blew out the final drive and didn't want to bother with it. Dealer quoted him almost a grand to fix it and so he abandoned it. I bought a used one for $20 bucks or so from a guy in Fla and in a couple of hours it was back in business. I offered it back to my Bro-in law but he didn't want it back?!?!

I put touring bars on to help with comfort and looks a bit. I may be converting to a deluxe tank. I still need new mirrors as the old ones are ugly too! I also need a speedo since mine finally died! It had been buzzing a bit and bouncing when over 80 km/h and then this weekend I was cruising at about 110 and it was reading a solid 20 km/h.

It sure is a far cry from my CBR that I had up until this spring!! I should have an interesting time trying to keep up with my buddy's and their sport bikes when we do our annual ride in a few weeks!!

hey, yer new proj looks killer! I always digged the cx's and thought they had potential. the radiator is the only reason why I didn't buy one at one point. love your subframe.

I gotta go start working so I didn't read everything, but did you ever make a fork brace for the GL1000 guy? I have a GL front end for my cb750 that's goin on. I'll need a brace. if you made one, maybe you could do another? if you can make one for less than the randakk one I'd be interested.

sorry, but what does cornandp mean? corn and peas? I don't get it.

love yer work, keep it up!

Thanks, I never did make the brace for the GL, there wasn't enough follow through. I can't remember but I think he never got back to me with the dims needed. I would be up to building one still though.

Cornandp is a combination of my last name first name and middle initial. I would change it for something more creative but now this is what everyone knows me by on a lot of forums.

I was/am very tired of paying someone to not mount my tires right anyways.

There will be only one person to blame now when thing inevitably go wrong.

that's great! HF is selling a mounting setup for pretty cheap. but there's a guy by me who races and has a setup at his house, $15 for changing tires. so I usually wear a tire and ride down there.

Sorry to read you missed your end date.   :-[  Sounds like you're close, though.  She'll still have plenty of riding time this summer/fall.

Well I am still waiting for my ignition box for "Little Dragon." The front brake is now working thanks to a new master c and a spiffy new braided front brake line. Since the bike runs as soon as the weather starts shaping up I will begin testing the suspension.

I told my little sister about the bike and sent her the build pages. She passed her endorsement test a couple of weekends ago and even though I wanted to surprise her with a finished bike I couldn't help myself because of her excitement. Anyways she is going to get me some fundage for some new tires. She is like a five year old waiting for Christmas.

Meanwhile "Little Horse" has still been throwing me little hissy fits, like the tank cracking at the back where I had welded a cover over the unsightly factory seat edge. The reason was the bolt I was using to hold the tank down was putting pressure on the side of the tank to the frame and with the thousands of vibes started a 3/4 inch crack. I pulled the tank and fixed the crack but now the tank is back with the painter. I will have to build a spacer for the bolt to apply pressure to itself instead of the tank sheet metal. Lesson learned I guess. I find it funny when I go into the garage and all "Little Horse" is missing is a tank and seat but it looks completely torn down.

Well I test rode it today to see how the suspension would hold up... I lost... the damn air filter it came off when I was riding. I looked like a buffoon going back to retrieve it from the middle of the road. "What the hell a man in a motorcycle helmet is diving for something shiny in the road!"

The front suspension only has 2 in left before bottoming out the springs are spent. I am looking into progressive brand springs. Oh and it looks like the fluid is watery. So more work to be done before it is ready.

Hot engine air is creeping under the seat causing a seat warming effect that would be welcome on a cold day but during the summer could become uncomfortable. I am not sure how to fix that yet. I will have to try and make a shield to baffle the air away.

Also the exhaust may be warming up the rear tire some

That's tough.. However its good you are finding these issues right away rather then later on.. When you fix the seat issue, make it removable so on the cold days it can be removed for the warmth.. ;)

you could make a hugger fender that's color matched or chrome above the swing arm, and flat black and louvered at point where it goes below.
That way the exhaust is deflected from the tire and the fender won't need cleaning too often.

here's an example:
look at how this guys fender fits in there-

as for the heated seat of yours-

if you sandwich some ceramic or fiberglass insulation between 2 sheets of aluminum riveted together, you can form it to shape, and hide it up where its needed.
aluminum sheet is cheap at Lowes, they even have perforated sheets.

Thanks guys, I am thinking for the exhaust issue the easiest route would be to change the end a little so t deflects out instead of directly back.

I like the idea of a removable baffle for the seat. It felt a lot like a car heated seat.

it's all over the inspiration thread-
sorry for hijacking.

no need to be sorry

I like that bike, I agree with the link it is a bobber not a cafe racer.

I suppose I could do a reverse hugger for the exhaust deflection. Oh decisions

Well if you made that fender you would also have to make some brackets to hold it up...

Just some more fuel..

some tabs welded to the swing arm would solve that.

screw the hugger I think I will just divert the exhaust to the turbo!

LOL if only I could manage to get one of those from a wrecked car that would be awesome.

Well I ordered some Avon road rider tires for the CX. In a week or so I will get a chance to try out my mounting tool, woot.

I think I am going to try spacers and new fork oil in the forks first before buying new springs. So correct me if I am wrong, fork oil and auto transmission oil are interchangeable? I have always used fork oil but I remember hearing whispers of this before and I haven't ever confirmed it true.

Man sometimes the little niggles can drive you nuts, seems like you are just about there and bam something else needs attention.

Hey candp...if you can get a measurement of the springs I have a set of progressives. I bought them off a member here and they didn't fit the tubes. I never figured out if it was the springs that were the prob or my tubes.

I can get a micrometer measurement of OD on the springs and if they are correct you can have them for what I paid...
