K2 Winter restore..Frame up almost complete.
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:31:58 AM »
I took this down to the frame and back. Engine top end and carbs, forks, new wheels many new parts, chrome, paint and using this forum as the great resource that it is. This is a really gratifying experience and alot of work. Taking a bike apart to the cases is both enjoyable and a challenge every step of the way but nothing like sitting down on it and kicking it over to come to life again.
A real charge! I highly recommend it if you have the time and resources to do it.
Sorry no before pics.
She was a salty rusty bugger.

Enjoy! Nearing completion.

Great looking bike. I'm most of the way through my K2 winter frame-up as well. Not nearly as nice as yours though. Mind if I ask, did you replace many parts? What did you get chromed?

HI Thanks much. I did replace many parts anything that I couldnt bring back to
good to excellent condition. I didnt do any rechroming just new parts as needed. New Wheels, Fork ears, All cables, grips, turn signals, fender, emblems ..etc
Chrome trim. Every nut and bolt was gone over and cleaned and clear coated or
replaced with new. Alot of small fasteners I got at my local hardware store.
Rebuilt forks and front brake. I had the frame soda blasted and I finished it in Eastwood gloss. Cleaned up the whole harness and got into the controls to renew what needed fixing.
New seat and paint. I bought the bike from photos and probably should have previewed
it first but I learned a ton doing this project because it was extensive. My favorite part was learning to build wheels..actually.
New piston rings...and a hone were required as well as..valve seals and a gasket kit of course. I rejetted to 120s and went with hm300s.
Gladly I didnt get into the transmission and frankly I wasnt up for it either.
It seems fine.
Post yours! when you get a chance.

Great job you've done so far! You should show it at the Road America thing this summer.
