question for the medical/docs here
« on: January 20, 2010, 12:18:57 PM »
i've always thought that only women got lupus, having watched both my mom and her sister die from it.

Not an MD but that is not true, my best friend in the USAF's father died of it.

People today generally live much longer with it.

my mom got the diagnosis in 1992, she passed december 10, 2005. i got bloodwork today to see if that might be my problem. something going on with my immune system and it isnt possible for me to have any STD that causes autoimmune problems. lupus scares me worse than cancer does.

I believe it is controled for the most part with different types of chemo.

Don't blame you for fearing it, any contact with medicine is at best unplesant.

Still I am grateful to live in a time when there is some real hope. every time I look at my re-attached finger I think of Dances with Wolves.

mom was on steroids, all sorts of pain meds and blood thinners. apparently most lupus sufferers end up dying from the strokes it can cause. during a flair up the blood thickens a guess. mom had one massive stroke december 6th and from what the docs said several milder ones over the next few days.

well now that i got the all clear........no lupus, thank god. for the first time in my life, i actually thought about punching out prematurely. after seeing how my mom and her sister died and how horribly painful it was for them, i have been absolutely terrified.
