Beautiful 63' Impala Super Sport w/ 409 4sp on Barrett Jackson
« on: January 21, 2010, 07:10:44 PM »

Whoa! Always fancied the Chevy 348-409 cars (had a red and white 58' Impala 2dr hdtp w/ 348/ powerglide, that would ROLL ON!)

      Just saw a 63' Impala SS w/ 409/4sp go for $55K

      http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/currentcarlist.aspx?aid=304&sd=01/20/2010&ed=01/21/2010

Loved the 61-64 Chevy Impala Super Sport Cars with the 409/ 4speeds.

if i COULD afford to spend that kind of money on a car i would buy that one in a heartbeat i'd do it in a heartbeat.

I know what you mean Jeff, I had the 58' Impala 2dr hdtp w/ the 348 and powerglide (wished it was a 4sp/ posi) and it would cruise OR FLY! Broke the speedometer right after I got it. That 348 had some real torque. Pulled the rear end loose from the upper mount, while drag racing on the street one night. I was beating a 65' Impala w/ the 327/ powerglide. It bent the shocks and I had a source that gave me another rear end to swap out. ;D I had a real blast with that car.  ;)

the best thing about this car, to me anyways, is that it doesnt LOOK like it's a total beast under the hood.

In High School, one of my best buddies had a Honduras Maroon (spelling?) 1962 Chevy Impala SS, 327, 4sp, positrac. That sucker was beautiful and would scream! :o 8) Also, just for the fun of it, he added a 45rpm record player! :D I would have LOVED to have had that car. One of my few deviations from Mopars! ;)

           My deviation to a Ford would be either a 55' Crown Victoria, a 62' Galaxie 500XL w/ 406 6 barrel/4sp and a 67' Fairlane GT 390/4sp

That 63 is reall close to the color my 62 bubbletop was.. , man I liked that car.. only had a 283, but I looked and looked for a 409.... took the bubbletop to Calif one winter, with my Amen framed 750 inside, and 2 bucket seats.. left late Dec, came back in Feb.. :o..rode to the Rock Store every Sunday.. back in the days Jay Leno used to hang out there..

Yeah, Silly Me, I had forgotten about the 63 1/2 model. ::)  32's are really nice and all, but I'm also struck by a nicely done 40' coupe as well.

You HAVE to under stand though, if I were able to get my hands on a Mopar with the factory 426 Max Wedge III setup, preferable a 64' Plymouth (Love the 64' Sport Furys), I'd have to pass up anything else. ;)

I was here to start a thread about the auctions. Ive been watching since tuesday. What a great way to waste time! My father has a 64 ss 4spd 327 red impala with 90K miles and original paint! I dont have a pic of it. He wants to restore it but it is original beside an engine rebuild. That 57 buick was awesome.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

Frank, the 62' 409 dual quad had 409hp, not sure about 61' SS. The 64 409 with dual quads, had 425hp. I don't remember if the 63' was 409 or 425hp with the dual quads.

NOW you guys are finally talkin'!  Finally got off that damn Mopar 440 kick!  :)

My own favorite is the '65 & '66 model, but '65 best.  I just like that body style better.  And I guess I'd take the 396/427 motor over the 409, but that's just me.

Great looking car anyway.

Sorry Ben, but personally, I would probably bleed Mopar, if cut! :D But, even though, I'm Mopar, I still respect and give credit to the others. ;)

My own preference, Chevy wise (of the Impalas), would be the 58' (had one) and the 60'- 64' Nothing at all wrong with the 396'427 or 454. I had the 348 in my 58' and i really liked how it performed and always wanted a 62' Impala SS with the 409hp 409/4sp and positrac.

My 2nd preference GM wise, would be a 62' Pontiac Gran Prix w/ the 421 engine. AWESOME car
