I'm curious, why you prefer dry sump systems?

Down side to the dry sump they add more complexity and cost to the manufacture, on a wide transverse 4 cylinder production motorcycle there already to high in the frame with the crankshaft centerline almost always put above the axle centerline's, on a narrow engine like the old 60s triumphs dry sump makes the engine a little shorter can be lower in the frame crank centerline is below the axle centerline. There a huge advantage for cars with a smaller dia. bellhousing no deep sump the engine can be put a lot lower in the frame. If I had my choice to have a dry sump on a motorcycle ( there are some more reasons) I would take it, but I would not pass on any motorcycle just because it did not have a dry sump.

harleys have had dry sumps since 1930s, triumph, BSA. nortons used them there have been others. they can be used to some advantage are they a must have to make an engine work absolutely not.

The primary advantage to a dry sump is that the crank shaft is not losing power pushing oil out of its way, particularly at high rpm this pumping (splashing :) ) loss can be significant.

It is more expensive,  wet sumps generally do not have an additional tank and my guess is that most wet sump systems have a single stage pump.  Less $$.

Strynboen,

Yes, the 750 has two pumps, actually two pumps in the same housing sharing a common driven shaft.  One pump pulls oil from the tank and passes it to the main oil gallery, the other pump takes return oil from the sump pan and returns it to the tank.  Some of the return oil is also used to lubricate the transmission.  See pic below :)  Oil level is checked via a dipstick on the tank.
