motorcycle covers?
« on: January 19, 2010, 03:40:29 PM »
Of course they come in varying price ranges w/ different "features" etc... anyone have a favorite type? I'm looking to spend ~$50.

Unless you are storing the bike outside save your money and use an old bed sheet.  They work well and can be thrown in the laundry to clean them up.  I have used an old king sheet on all my bikes for over 15 years.

I've got somewhere to store one of my bikes but the other is going to have to be outside come summer, so that's why I'm looking.

I used to use a large grill cover when I had to store my bike outside.  Care needs to be taken to make sure your bike is dry before you cover 'er up.  Grill covers don't breathe so good, but they are cheap!  But sometimes the cheap route turns out to cost you the most.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I bought one in December here in Oz.  Brand is Rjays size BC4.  I'm really happy with it as my bike is outside in a tropical climate (high humidity at the moment).  It even has a liner so it won't scratch or scuff your paint work. It's water proof and fits the K1 nicely.  Wouldn't fit on my F2, just a tad longer.  You can see the bottom of the tires as the cover sits off the ground.  I can post a photo if you like.  It also has a slight more heavy duty feel than my last cover which lasted 8 years.  Hope this helped.

If you want a good cover, your may have to spend more than $50. Double your budget and you've got some better options.

Dowco is my personal favorite. Followed by Nelson Rigs in a close second.

Agree...I have a Dowco made here in WI on the Wing since it may sit overnight at a motel when on the road. The 750's are stored inside so I got a $20 cover at Fleet Farm just to keep the dust and stuff off them.

i think my wal mart cover was 20 bucks.  but you have to be a little careful putting it on and taking it off.  i ripped mine hastily removing it one day.  ...just couldn't wait to ride, ha!

Dowco is my personal favorite.

You can't do better, imo.  If they ever fall apart, they'll fix or replace it.  I cover the 750 with a 19 year old Dow cover while at work.  Sun, wind, rain, snow, duststorms, etc. haven't really fazed it.  Just a little faded is all.

Does everyone just pack their dows in the bag it comes with and bungee it to the seat when heading to work etc?  I have a dow cover and it's surprised me a little with how it withstood a heck of a thunderstorm and stayed in place, no obvious condensation on the inside or anything, and the temp changed pretty radically.

That's what I do.  They work pretty well.  Like yours, mine has gone through many interesting storms and has always stayed put.
