just won these off ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150860406450?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648

i'm hoping that with the drilled rotors, nice pads, stainless lines and one of Randakk's master cylinders, i'll have even better brakes than the GL1000 conversion.  I already have the proper fork lowers for these, anyone have any thoughts as to increased braking, or should i stick with the earlier single piston calipers??

Are those going to mount and work?  I thought you had to stay with the ones for those years. I see you said you had the right lowers so went through your build thread to see if you did something else with the lowers (long time on iPhone), couldn't find anything.

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Thought I read the mounting points are different. This link talks about '78 but the calipers you got look to be later.

Let me know if I am wrong. I am still looking at my options with a GL1000 front end on my '76.

over the months of accumulating parts for the build i got a set of early and late model gl1000 front end parts.  i'm pretty sure i still have everything from both, so i'll use the early model tubes (might get new ones from Forks by Frank) with my racetech internals, then use the late model ('78 or '79) fork lowers that have the wider bolt spacing.  ASAIK, the post '81 calipers were a direct bolt on for the late model gl1000, which used the same rotors as the early model.  so i'm PRETTY sure that these will work with no modifications.

i'm mainly curious with the stopping power of the (slightly larger) dual piston vs the large single piston.  If it doesn't work, then i'll just have even more parts to sell one day!

JB Weld?  ;D

.: Scott :.

Do not use JB weld.
It will not expand and contract. The engine cases can expand and contract .004-.0019 thousandths.

It needs to be TIG welded.

I am keeping an eye on what you do with your build.  I would like a GL1000 front end on the 76 but still somewhat undecided.

Undecided on whether to do it or not.  :)

But really, it fits what I want to do, wider than stock Sun rim with a 110/80-18 (like you are doing, mostly), brace on the lowers (I think those are available) and a little more width (i am just used to bigger bikes).

Triples are a whole 'nother story as you well know.  750 triple options are abundant. New tubes will cost more at FBF than CycleX.  Then, you just had to toss the brake thing in there.  :P

i have a superbrace for mine.  picked it up for about $120 or less.  i'm working on my forks, i don't think they're that bad, but ya never know.

i've bought multiple complete front ends off e-bay and here for cheap.  i think i got my complete early ('75 i believe) for less than $200 shipped.  then i got the early calipers for about $50 and then rotors for about the same.  so if you're a good shopper, you can get a GL swap for less than $300 (i bought them because i didn't want to wait, i'm quite impatient at times).  i'm just going to try out these calipers when i get everything mocked up and see how they fit.  i doubt they'll do worse than the stock ones, and i believe i have more options for upgraded pads with these.

So unfortunately, no real updates to discuss in all these years.  I did just recently acquire 3 GL1000's (a '75, '76 and '79); the plan is to part out the '76 and '79 and use the proceeds to fund the '75 and build it into a nice standard cruiser with a few upgrades.  Also picked up an '81 Yamaha XS650 that will be a little skinny-tire bobber.

Trying to sell my '01 Superhawk, but haven't had much luck selling it lately.  I've even considered getting a 2nd motorcycle lift to help everything out, but I'm not 100% yet!
