i'm doing a red frame and wheels.  a red tank won't look good, as there will be no contrast...  white tanks look good, and the red accents will look good too, but i'm still somewhat reserved about painting all the indents one color.  i think accents, or some good scallops to accent the curves would be trick!

ok.  need a few questions answered.

for those of you that have done a GL front end and racetech internals, did your setup look like this?  was the adapter piece between the emulator and emulsion tube really hard to get in at first??  here's a picture of how i put everything in.

also, for those with a superbrace on any bike, how the heck am i supposed to get the seal protectors on????  here's how they're supposed to sit on top of the brace...

I don't think I've ever seen metal seal protectors on 750 forks.  Thought they were always the black rubber ones.

ok guys.  weekend was full of unpleasant surprises that hindered work on the bike of any kind.  friends car died, computer motherboard crashed, forgot about plans with the gf, that kind of stuff....  either way, i've had NO luck finding that throttle cable holder that fits on the carbs.  does anyone have any ideas about where i could find one, or if i could make one out of some flat stock?  i wish i had measurements of the stock piece, that would make things a lot easier to try and replicate...  i attached a picture of the piece i'm looking for.  or am i just freaking out about this?  i've seen so many on e-bay and other places that don't have them...

onto another question area.  does anyone have any advice on a stock jetting selection?  i'll need to check what the main and slow jets are currently.  the needles are on the top (farthest from the point) notch.  i might try and drill out some of the holes like Hondaman suggests in his book.  but i don't know where to really start from the tuning perspective.  i'd like to get these guys really clean and put back together so i don't loose any parts and i can use the workspace for something else!

one other thing, what's the best way to clean off the floats?  i don't think sticking them in the ultrasonic cleaner would be the best.  i was thinking of just spraying them off with some carb cleaner and then shooting them with some compressed air, CAREFULLY, i know!  then i'll set them to the factory specs for float height.

Did you use the right size screw driver on the carb screws?
There are 3 sizes of phillips screws. #1.#2, and #3 Impact driver?
That plastic piece is to seal the shaft where it goes through the carb body so it does not leak air and has a full circle to support it.
Those are 1977 carbs. Many 1978 750K  parts will fit/ The throttle return spring on the 1977 was much better. Easier to work on.
As far as a bracket you can just make one. it is no big deal.
I doubt if you will find one that someone would take off of a complete set.
Do NOT !! use the old float valves or you will be taking them all apart again.
Make sure the check valves in the accelerator pump work and when the float bowls are full of gas the spray nozzles should squirt fuel.

See my post for photos on LUCKY 1978 CB750 post on this same thread.
It shows the accelerator pump in detail.
Also make sure a .010 guitar string (steel) will pass through the idle jets.
They are about .014 thousandths.

That looks good to me...  It has been awhile since I did mine but that looks correct.  I also have a Superbrace but have never seen the metal seal protectors either.

So tweakin, your adapter spacers were tough to get in?  Did they slide "freely" once in?

as requested by another member, here's some close up's of my oil tank.  pictures are from all sides, inside to show the line placement and rigged up on the bike.

inside tank.  ribbed tube is return (from engine), bottom bung is feed (to engine) and bung on vertical side is lower oil sight.  note feed line is slightly raised to keep sediment out of engine

drain bung, it's mounted nearly flat to get most of the crud out during oil changes

vented filler cap

oil sight tube

That looks really good wannabridin.  One thing you should check before you weld on mounting tabs, is your tire clearence at full shock travel.

ya, i'm going to do a full mockup of things once i get the swingarm in from the netherlands!  should be anytime now, as long as things are ok with rob!

i need to figure out my tire size i'll run and then get a total installed height, then i'll just mock up a cardboard circle and throw everything together.  hopefully that'll work well for what i need it to.  i'm REALLY certain that everything will clear just fine, as i took that into consideration when i measured.  lets hope i didn't make a mistake!!

Wannabridin, did you not use the vent line with your custom oil tank since you are using the vented filler cap? Thanks.

Sorry guys, been busy with other stuff: the street tracker and a new job!

Anothercb: I'm not going to use the vent because of the vented cap.

Branden: I'll get a closer pic for you, but basically under the  rubber boot on top is a "click wheel" that allows you to make adjustments to rebound.

Here's a brief mockup because I got my seat cowl.  Thanks again Andrew!! (little_horse)  his work is great!

Man I'm a #$%*ty member on here.  I haven't TOUCHED my bike (other than moving parts around the garage) in months!!  I started a new job Nov. 1, 2011, and I've since been VERY busy almost all the time with work!

I'm a Welding Engineer for Trinity Industries in the Rail division, and since there's only 2 of us for this division (half of the company, which is a big one!), the work load has been impressive!  To add insult to injury, I travel to the different plants frequently (Longview, TX and Oklahoma City in case anyone wants to meet up sometime!) and irregularly, so I can't just ride my bikes into the office.  I've also been getting my Spirit 750 (the street tracker) back on the road, and am quite close to having it all back together!

I'm moving into a new apartment with my girlfriend of 3 years on May 30, and since I'll have quite a large 1 car garage all to myself, I'm hoping I can get back to work ASAP!!  I'm also waiting on a large box of way-cool parts to arrive from The Netherlands (Thanks Rob!!!), so that should be here within the next 2 weeks.  I have a BUNCH of work ahead of me, but luckily I now have a lift (Harbor Freight one, $299!!) so that should help things out a bit!

I'll probably do a nice inventory during the move and update things on here as much as I can, so for anyone that was following this build, fear not, I have not given up on things!

Garrett, careful with that garage at the apartment.  The damn things get broken into all the time.  It's too easy for criminals, especially since a lot of them are separate structures from the owners' living areas.  It's the main reason I've never looked into an apartment.   Think about it.  How many times have you heard someone say that their bike was stolen from the parking lot or somewhere in the apt. complex where they lived?  How bout from their house's garage?  Me I've never heard the latter.  The former many times.  Just something to think about.
Hopefully you and the gf have found one of those that's above the garage.

another - GREAT job on the oil tank, i love how clean and open it looks!!  that's exactly what i'm going for and its something you don't quite see on 750's much!  do you have a link to your  build??

fast - i understand the security risks, which is why i don't keep the door open very much.  plus this is an structure unit so our apartment will be offset above the garage with a parking spot in front.  i'm going to keep the door closed as much as possible, even during the summer months, to keep any prying eyes at bay.  police reports for the complex are a minimum, and it's in a nicer area, so that's always comforting.

hopefully i can get back to working on the bike as soon as i move in!  rob should hopefully have my stuff shipped out by now, so i can get everything from him before i move in.  i also think i'm going to order a set of new fork tubes from Forks by Frank, as mine are showing pitting that can't be buffed out to the level i want, and they're nott too expensive comparatively.
