I just got in from a few hours cleaning the garage and pulling apart my bike (CB550-1010744) ... I've been discouraged from grad school, but I've been inspired by the renewal of spring. I realized that with my new handlebars must come shorted clutch & throttle cables, and a shortened brake hose. If I'm doing this right, that should be all I need until I get into the motor.
I'd like some opinions on setting up the new handlebars and finding these shortened cables/hose... I made a big mistake and clipped the handlebar harness near the controls, not thinking there would be connections beneath the fuel tank (which I need to patch & POR15...) What should I do? Cheapest solution is to rebuild... I thought I would also rebuild my ignition coils (snapped spark plug wires) but after tearing into one bank I'm thinking I'd rather buy a new set.
Which ignition coil should I get? (this is a stock bike, and I'm not going to race it- but I want it tuned sweetly)
So.. what I'm seeing in the near future... a new front tire tube, new ignition coil, new clutch & throttle cables & a shortened upper brake line... rebuilding the handlebar controls and renewing the fuel tank... now that I think of it, I also have a huge hole in my 4-1 exhaust manifold which will have to be repaired...
Does anybody in Boston have a welder or know a good shop? I'd be willing to also pass my fuel tank onto a good craftsperson...
oh yea... what are those two wires coming out of the clutch hand controls? Mine have broke
