New Twist on Two Wheels.. sort of two anyway
« on: January 24, 2010, 10:05:57 AM »
My apologies if this has been posted before, but found it interesting from and engineering standpoint (but not as much fun) and they really lost me with the price.

Unless it has a.c., couldn't see riding it in the Texas summer heat!

Pretty cool!  It would take some getting used to, though.

Seen those before, believe they've been out for a number of years.  While cool, they do seem overly complex for what you might potentially gain from the design.  And yes, the price does seem prohibitive.

Based on how young Jeremy looks there I'd say it was at least ten years ago, but I'd never seen that episode.

Pretty interesting, I kinda like it. I'm concerned about how easy for some people it would be to forget to raise the training wheels...that seems to happen in the vid when they're starting out...or to not put them down. ::) It's pricey too.

If I recall correctly, the landing gear is actuated automatically based on speed.

Yeah, I think that it's pretty cool and, IF they were produced AND accepted well enough, perhaps the cost would settle low enough to allow folks to be able to more easily buy one. :)

Here's a link to the original.  A used one for sale.  A dealer I worked for back in the early 90s sold these new.  They had all sorts of power.  The ones we sold had Kaw 440 motors.  The out riggers were raised up by a lever inside.

I assume that because of the bodywork, you can overcome the normal aerodynamic problems of a motorcycle and achieve some really good fuel efficiency.

Sure looks like fun!
