The Super 8 Reel is away getting the business done to it at the moment.
I mentioned in earlier posts that what I would like to happen, is to make this short doco available to all of the SOHC members.
It will run for approx 10 > 12 minutes.
The hurdles at the moment are to get this footage onto the site.
I will need some help to do this.
At the end of the day, my wish is for a small anonomous donation (unspecified) to be made to the treasury of this site as the members choose to access it.
This will a benefit for us all.
It would be a once of thing based on the honour system.
That is hurdle number 2.
I know that this is achievable and I will keep you up to speed with the progress.
Mick

  • I know the pieces fit...
cool stuff, i would enjoy watching this as well. Any idea who filmed it? Did he do it himself, or did he have someone with him? Is it actual footage of him on his trip? I mean...If its only 10-12 minutes long when he was out there for 19 days, I wonder if they just put it together after he got back?

I think he must have had had a small film crew with him and there may be some media coverage in there as well.
The guys in Melbourne are still working on it to do the file conversion.
In the meantime I've located another old Cine Reel about the underground biker scene in the mid 1970's which goes for a bit longer than the Julian Grant trip.
That should be be a good one to watch too and will need to go through the same process as this one.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress.
It's a bit of a slow process but I think it's certainly worth the wait.

If you think Julian was tough, a guy called Chris Peckham rode his tiny, stock-standard SL125 around Australia pretty much non-stop 'just for fun'. I believe historians will find that Chris' earlier ride was the inspiration for Julian's adventure. 'Peckos', a bloody fast rider on his BMW or any bike, is sadly no longer with us, but his amazing ride will live on. ^^

This video file is back on disc now and also in avi format on a USB stick.
It runs for 9 minutes which is ok for You Tube (Under 10mins)
I'm not sure how to get it onto this site to share with everyone here.
The easiest way is to upload it to YT and put a link in, although doing that will make it public property as well.
I was thinking that it would be a good idea (somehow) to keep it accessable only from the SOHC site.
Any ideas guys??

Here's my two cents:

Trying to keep something hidden until payment is an old and broken system.  These days, if something is digital, it can and will be duplicated, shared, pirated, replicated, and downloaded ad nauseam.  These days, digital media must be served up free of charge by the owner or it will be served up free of charge by the thief - it only takes one.

Now I'm not suggesting not attempting to monetize this obviously valuable piece of footage, or any other footage of old SOHC's.  But it has to play by the new rules of the internet - free content is king (in all cases except Apple).  This free content encourages traffic, traffic brings content, content brings traffic, and round and round we go.  The video should be viewed in context of advertisement and reminders that hosting this media is not free or cheap and users should donate.  Also, watermark the video with the sohc4.net website, so if it is stolen, the watermark remains.  This is how revenue is generated on the web.  Leverage content and traffic, don't try to restrict it.

I agree with the above. Watermark it if you care and toss it up on youtube. Really why bother with all the hassle of dealing with trying to keep it semi private for just 9 minutes when 90% of the views no matter what sites its hosted on will be from this site.

Thanks for going through the work to get this done..
