Dumb or Deal??
« on: January 25, 2010, 07:11:49 AM »
I have run across a parts bike for my '78 750k and am wondering if I am a dumb or thrifty.  Its been tarped for 20+ years.  No keys, no title, $200.

Its the blue one, '77 750K.

Cheers,

Can you ever go wrong with a parts bike unless it has been stripped bare or is rusted to bits?

Does the engine still turn over and maybe a "bonus" title by chance ??

Yeah that's what i was originally thinking, but i got cold feet for some reason.  According to the owner the engine still turns over, but hasn't been run in 20+ years.  Also the chance of a "bonus" title is slim to none but oh well.

Thanks all.  Looks like i have a date this Sunday  ;D

I see 2 parts that are easy to move..
 Fork brace 70 or +
Dyno cover bare.. 70 bux.. people need them always

plus 77K forks, the best of the K forks AND you can buy the other style braces for them. Plated too, can run without headlite ears.

PD carbs, I would not sell a clean set for less than 100...

 need I go on..

Gonna be fun to move with no top triple or handlebars.

It's complete enough that I'd go for rework to running condition.  (I'd exhaust efforts to get tittle first, and be certain it is not on a stolen bike list.)

There is certainly more than $200 in parts there.
The engine is just begging to be moved to where a black model engine now languishes.

Anyone know what fairing that is on the front?

Yeah, I have already bribed two buddies to help with promises of cold pints.  The owner of the bike also owns a john deere tractor w/ bucketbloader and has offered to "load" it for us into the truck.   I see that going awry very easily....

I was also thinking about bringing the top triple and handlebars i have disassembled from my current project, '78 750k, to help move it around.

Mate, that looks fantastic, I love the (Shoei?) fairing and luggage, if it was me (we don't have the "title" problem here in Oz) I'd tidy it up and keep it "as is" for long distance work, that's a perfect tourer set-up! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Good on ya Terry.  Not sure how you saw that from the photo, but on the bigger version i have, it reads _HOEI on the luggage rack.

As long as you have somewhere to store it, you can't go wrong with a parts bike.

And Simpson, that is a gorgeous bike you have!
