Hello all , I am new to this board and thought you might like to see some pictures of my nearly finished CB500. The bike was bought in late October last year, the early pics show the sorry state it was in after about 17 years off the road. When I got it home I changed the usual oil and filters, gave it the once over, refit the carbs and eventually managed to start it. It was running rough but the engine sounded ok.
It was obvious that the bike needed a complete rebuild, so stripping out started in earnest. The frame was blasted and suitably refinished in jet black, together with another load of parts. The wheels have been stripped, hubs polished and new DID rims and spokes fit before final alignment was carried out. The wheel bearings and associated seals were replaced in the hubs and the brake disc repainted and assembled. The engine was painted before refitting in the frame and various covers polished and refit using stainless bolts.
The tank and side panels were blasted and prepared for the orange metal flake paint job, the tank stripes you see are not of the original type, therefore the tank will be getting a repaint now I have the correct stripes. The chrome work was either re-chromed or replaced.
All the switchgear and clocks were stripped cleaned and painted satin black. The final assembly has taken me around 2 1/2 months of hard but enjoyable work. The carbs were the biggest nightmare, they have been off so often I think I could whistle and they would jump on the bench !!! Another set of carbs were bought, cleaned and overhauled and these, thankfully, seem to be alot better. The exhausts are new Honda ones. I have used genuine Honda parts throughout(where possible) to preserve the the fine Honda standards.
Hope you like it
