Okay, it's carb time and I need some opinions...I have read to only use OEM rebuild kits, but I am having a tough time finding them(specifically for the K6). So, should I just clean them and put some new gaskets (which I can find)? They are a filthy mess on the outside and I haven't torn into them yet, but from what I can see, they look pretty decent. Anyway, opinions and advice are always welcome! Thanks.
There will be no need to replace the inward parts, except possibly the float valves (and maybe their seats) if corroded so they leak and won't shut off.
Whatever you do, dont use the Keyster brand of slide needles and needle jets: they are not the right calibration for the CB750 and have caused endless grief for dozens of our members. The needles never "wear out", and even if the needle jet wears itself oval, you can pull it out and reverse it 180 degrees and it will work fine again. It took over 100,000 miles on mine to finally make this wear measurable: first I lowered the needles one notch, which worked quite well: then I turned the needle jets around and it fixed things up. Then RXman found a set of needles and sent them to me as a gift, so I installed them. (I'm currently thinking of going back to the slightly worn ones again, because it had better midrange performance with the slightly increased fuel flow in my favorite driving ranges!)
