my new book 10,000 ways to screw up with your sohc hobby
« on: March 12, 2010, 07:16:14 AM »
I only have 8,724 that I did myself, Anyone want to help out?

# 8720 your buddy says just, tie it to the wheel lift on my tow truck, I've towed a lot of bikes like that- and you don't envision throwing yourself under the falling bike to protect the rare parts.
# 8721 You buy a hot rodded early die cast and think it will be cheap to restore.
# 8,722 when your wife says you can have all the 750's you want as long as they all fit in the garage, and you believe her.
# 8,723 spend four months trying to start a 750 with a plugged exhaust.
# 8,724 take some free parts 750's home thinking you surely can build one bike for free.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

#8725 You get a free rough K0 thinking "I can restore that to it's former glory"
#8726  You get the rear brake assembly in then the swing arm to discover it's the wrong brake rod.
#8727 Did I really put in those tiny o rings and rubber pucks under the cam towers?
#8728 Crap! Scratched the freshly painted frame.
#8729 Not enough room in the garage, wife says to sell my boat and then I'll have lots of room. No figgin' way I say. Your problem then she says.
#8730 Wrong seat cover for the ducktail seat.

#8731 When looking at the finished bike, finding the new O-ring on the floor by the engine stand, that goes in the shifter case.  :o
See SOHC4shop.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

#8731 Just let me see if the motor spins, then I'll know if I want to restore it.

#8732 [wife hearing this while your on the phone] Can you get me a Title?  Whats he in jail for?

#8733 "Yes, I can chrome that to match the original, I know how they did that."

#8734 Wife asks " Are you sure that will not fall on my car?"; as she looks over where you have the next project stored in the joists above.

#8736 - You swear to your friend that, even though the washer is under your bike parked in his driveway, it must be his washer.  (I later found out that it came off my coils by the way....)

#8741 Tearing apart a perfectly good SOHC for a "freshening up", then finding & buying another one to ride during the rebuild. ( Gonna put that back together someday!)
#8742 Attempting to use auto jack & jack stands + no tie downs while doing a front end swap. ( Oil spill looked like the ExxonVeldaz hit my shed!)

8743 - bringing the engine in the house to keep the wonderfully powder coated frame from getting scratched and while putting the engine in whilst on its side finding the clutch gasket is exactly what you would call 'oil tight'. thank god for kitchen towels and reactions akin to a cobra. Hopefully she will not find the spot of oil it dropped on the carpet.
