Hmm...

"7. Let's take Sarah Palin and her followers seriously. They're tapping into anger that's real and spreading. Don't let them become the voices of the angry working (and increasingly unemployed) classes."

This is questionable.  Taking Sarah Palin seriously would grant her and her "followers" credibility that isn't deserved, and they will take this and run with it.  Sure, they're tapping into anger that's real and spreading, but so are Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly (who are more of a detriment to the stability of this nation than Sarah Palin ever could be).  Maybe instead of taking them "seriously," the REAL news media outlets should stop kowtowing and start denouncing them for what they are... fear-mongering and anger-inciting entertainers who are more focused on creating problems than offering viable solutions.

We've already had one "average Joe" #$%* things up for the last 8 years...  Do we really want an "average Jane" to #$%* it up even further?

what you said is what I took him to mean with his comment. IE seriously denounce all fear mongers.

Yeah, #7 totally discredits the article which was a little shaky to begin with.

Taker her seriously? Pffffffff! Yeah.  ::)

Plus, middle class, what middle class? Didn't they do away with that in Dubya's term?

I retired from the Justice Department and I can tell you two things...there is no justice and the US government is the biggest threat to your freedom.  Every day the Civilian authorities more mimic the military.  The militarykill and destroy as a mission. It is what they are trained to do and they do it well but their mission is misplaced in the civilian world but it does amke suppression easier.

damn boys, you completely missed his intent. oh well!

Wardenerd has given the gist of the article in "there is no justice and the uS government is the biggest threat to your freedom".

Vermont seems to have a strong secessionist movement. I hope they do it.

I agree with some of his talking points but #7 is a non-starter for me.  :-\

well here's what it said to me, lots of folks seriously like Palin and would like to see her in office.
This is what we should take serious. And yea it's serious. Had a neighbor just the other day
say how much he hoped she'd run again. I said, "what! you want a bimbo in office"? but you know
we've had many male bimbo's so I guess a female one is next.

The only Palin I could vote for would be Michael...but he's British.

#7 is not about seriously considering Palin as a leader but realizing that she is tapping into an unfocused/misdirected anger and using it for political gain.  A technique long used by demagogues, dictators, cult leaders, and yes, politicians seeking power.

I agree with #1 and 2 completely.  Being the sole "superpower" is going to matter less and less as economic might grows more important.  China is about to displace Japan as the 2nd largest economy and while the U.S. is still far ahead the trend does not look good.  How much longer can we afford to be burdened with a bloated over sized military that will be less and less important in the future.

Some advice from a life long southerner...That secessionist thing does not work out too well.

The other day a Harley rider pulled up next to me and said" Don"t you remember Pearl Harbor? That bike was made in Japan.  My response was " I remember Gattysburg too.  That iron your riding was built in Milwaukee, Wisconsin."

Interesting RM, I see tendencies here, of the same type thing, only here they show the ramp ceremonies and the caskets being loaded, but I'm not exactly sure when full body scans became OK, and other things equally stupid, I was going to go across the line a while ago, but the thought of some jumped up security guard giving me the gears at the boarder, made me say I don't need to go to the states that bad, so my $ 500. didn't end up in your economy. I have a slightly different perspective on this security issue because of age, I know none of our collective peoples can ever be secure, all any of us can do is react after the fact and if the world is finnally getting that grim that there are attacks every day then we go back to the small village mentality where you know evryone and any you don't are treated with suspicion and rejected. This of course will #$%* up world trade and mean a huge finacial loss for all the worlds people so many more will die of hunger, lack of medicine. I have more to say but am finding it too depressing to pursue at the moment. So at just about 0700 I'll turn on the jazz and have another cup java.

We call that secessionist thing "The War of Northern Aggression" in my house...
It is strange that no hog rider mentions the Revolutionary War when I'm riding my Triumph.  Oh how soon we forget.  ;D ;D

and the problem is that unless the underlying sickness is changed, the sickness that
got us where we are and why I harp on history and the Northern War of Aggression so much,
then when the direction is found that they intend to go it will probably be the wrong direction.

HA Northern war of aggression. Whatever. Kinda blind to lump everyone one in the north to that. My state did not even exist yet. And considering neither of us had been born, kinda dumb to carry that grudge against people who had nothing to do with it. :)
And what if the south had been successful? You think things would be much different? Oh sure we might not have a black president but obviously skin color has nothing to do with how well a politician can F over the working class.

Ultimately, we would probably still be were we are today. we would still probably be busting our asses with little hope of decent retirement. I suppose WW1 and 2 would have turned out quite a bit different.

To me, the whole north/south thing is old, literally and figuratively. We are now all in this together against what our "leaders" are trying to do.

I used emoticons, but just in case my sarcastic humor didn't translate I am an American first (for better or worse) and a proud Southerner second.  Now as for this kettle of crap we Americans currently find ourselves in, I hope it is one of those galvanizing moments in history that makes us better.
