Topic: Ebay CB500 Brake Caliper Rebuild Kit

IT seems way too simplistic. I mean it looks like its missing seals. Ive never rebuilt one of these SOHC calipers. Is this really all I need or is there more? the last caliper I rebuilt had at least 4 different seals. I did look at the schematic on bike bandit and it doesnt seem to me that there are any other seals, but I want to be sure. Has anybody used this kit or this company before? How does the price seem?

The large round seal goes in a groove inside the caliper and the other is a cover for the bleeder. Lots of times the rubber seal can be reused if you clean the groove very well. Price seems kind of high,check online or your dealer.

there is only one seal, and there is the bleeder valve dust cap. you can buy an OEM seal from your local honda dealer for about 9 bucks. the bleeder dust cap is a couple of bucks too. I'd prefer OEM. you may also need a new piston. those are pretty expensive though. about 80 bucks

Thanks guys. thats cool that theres only one seal. I guess. Thanks for the tip, I'll poke around and see what I can find in terms of a cheaper source. I dont need the bleeder valve cap either. Mine is in good shape.

It is just the one seal, and my dealer had one in stock. If yours does not though, the cost of the seal and free shipping makes that a fair price. I've bought some of SCI's rubber parts before, always excellent quality.

As for the piston, if you need one be sure to do a search on the board for the phenolic pistons a forum member is making. He sells them on ebay ocassionally also. About half the price of a OEM replacement. I bet the phenolic one stays cooler too.

If you need a new piston because it is way pitted/rusted, get Kevin's phenolic piston, you can't go wrong there. Got one for my 750 and zero problems since then.
