My first restoration!!
« on: February 09, 2010, 07:23:29 AM »
Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum. I just got a 76 CB750. I'm rather ignorant about motorcycles so if you guys don't mind could you tell me where to start? I want to do a cafe conversion. The motor runs good and it shifts fine.

Thanks

Looks like you have a good start to your project, Cafe' bikes are very individual machines so maybe you need to figure out where you want to go with this.
Do you want to manufacture the seat pan etc yourself or find a supplier and just bolt something on?
Plan your build, there's plenty of Cafe' guys on here to advise. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

welcome to the forum palmercole.
looks like youve got a great bike to work with, but a cafe conversion is more of a personal, artistic thing.
visiting the various gallery pages on the board here will expose you to tons of clever ideas. some guys here have spent years, some just days.
it all depends on where YOU want it to go.

Personally, before any mods...i'd start with a Clymer book and a shop manual for your bike.
read it, live it, own it.
Learn the basics. do a 3000mi tuneup as they outline.  come here and ask questions.
once its running as it should, then get creative....
good luck and have fun with the process.

Thanks guys. As for the conversion I do have a 'vision', I guess, for it. As I mentioned in the first post I know nothing about working on bikes, the tune up mentioned is a great idea and I do have the manuals.

Here's to the first (baby) step

If anyone has any other "no-brainer" tips please tell them to me  ;D

ready a chapter of your clymer every time you are on the $hitter :D

gap new plugs and an oil/filter change.
check/top off the brake fluid in master cyl.
check the quality of the front pads..
test battery.
