I think everything needs to be done in moderation. Buddhism has it right there. If cows are gonna be killed for meat, then we might as well wear leather so they don't go to waste. We shouldn't probably base 100% of our diet on meat, but enough here and there makes people stronger and healthier, and less likely to be anemic.
Vegans have tough lives. They have to figure out the amounts of beans and legume product they need to eat to get enough protein to be healthy, figure all the green leafies they should be eating to get their iron, none of that crap really tastes all that good, except maybe the morningstar stuff... I often ponder why any nice veggie brand of food would name their company after lucifer, but who knows?
I'd rather be an omnivore and have a few leather goods that I take good care of, have pets I treat better than some people treat their kids, etc etc.
