Hey bucky, Join the club. I was diagnosed with Asthma years ago and, come to think of it, I was about your age. They started me off with a Medicated inhaler to use 2 or 3 times aday AND an "Rescue" inhaler for the actual Asthma Attacks. I've been on a Provental (spelling?) for several years now. The Medicated one I use, is an Azmacort. Some times, I can drink a cup or 2 of hot coffee and get some relief as well. If you get to hot, it can bring it on and if you eat and get too full, it can cause a problem. It feels TO ME like someone is sitting on my chest, while I'm trying to breathe. It CAN BE bad enough to KILL! I had gotten to where I didn't need the medicated one and didn't have to use the Rescue inhaler very often. Allergy Season will give you problems, Cigarette Smoke, Perfume, cologne, etc.

i have to say, it's really really nice not to have to constantly feel like my chest is all congested. i can actually take a deep breath and not cough afterwards.

OK.  So sometimes I get a little exercise and I have to sit down because it's hard to breathe and I feel like I ran laps.  Sometimes to the point where I feel like I could throw up.
Many times at night I wake up because of pains in my chest.

I've been eating tums like popcorn because I assumed it was acid reflux or something.
You guys are saying I've got asthma?

Do yourself (and all of us) a favour. Go and see a doctor.

Uncle, It is very possible! Have you ever had to occasion to be breathing about 90mph, but not getting much air? Do you have coughing spells, that don't seem to do any good (in other words, you cough and don't seem to break anything loose, to cause the coughing to ease up?) At times, do you wheeze when you breathe? Do you feel like you are not getting much air into your lungs? Do things like cigarette smoke, perfume, cologne or similar things, set you off with a breathing or coughing problem? What happens is, your lungs are infected, causing swelling internally and reducing the amount of air you can take in. It will make you extremely tired too! CHeck it out Uncle. ;)

If it is acid reflux which can cause Asthma attacks get some Nexium. Tums makes it worse.

Well, after what Bill said, I figure it's only congestive heart failure.  No worries.

Oh yeah, Thanks for bringing that up Bobby. I agree Nexium is Pime stuff. I AM on that, because of Acid Reflux and I can't believe I didn't think of that for the Uncle. YOU are on your toes Bobby and I'm glad for that. ;)

Yeah, after years of working, sand blasting, metallizing, working in smoky test cells, smoky engine shops on wing dings, breathing F12, running it through a flame, all with out protection, I was told that I had Asthma and am on Spiriva and Ventolin (found that after a couple of years Advair gives me the #$%*s) now I can't stand following a diesel anything, strong perfumes, smoke from ciggies and cold ( the last is a treat considering where I live), other point, thank who ever that I'm a Canadian and an old fart, the taxpayer's subsidize my meds. I wind up paying $ 6.11 for a prescription as opposed to hundreds and to all you out there that feel socialized medicine is wrong the words are go shag your'sel.

Ahh Bobby, I will hug myself in glee, until my balls turn blue (1) if I thought that I made any of the anti socialized med people twitch.
(1) foot note, from an old play I worked on, with a slight twist.
