Hush's car goes KABOOM!!
« on: January 29, 2010, 01:13:17 AM »
OK so I've finished work at the prison for the day, cruising home window down just letting the breeze chill me out when I notice the temperature guage has gone down to cold, normally she sits at dead middle of range so this is strange.
But not bad strange as overheating would be bad, there is a distinct rattle now coming from under the car, something lose possibly, I'll fix it when I get home, nothing new for my trusty 1994 Nissan Sylvia to shake something lose.
Hang on now the temp guage reads really really hot? How does that work??
OK I can smell something burning now but I'm almost home.....ah not gonna make it, smoke from under bonnet...arrrgghhh smoke from under dash...filling car "choke".
Time to bail, grab cell phone, wallet and work bag, smoke everywhere now.
Sit down on fence and wait for smoke to die down, this doesn't happen, OK I know better than to open the bonnet so I ring 111 and talk to the nice Fire dept lady, "just one truck with an extinguisher will be fine" I tell her.
Sirens, big fire truck arrives, by now hardly any smoke, I feel really stink, but they see the uniform and give me some shared curtesy, they flip open the bonnet and no smoke no flame? :o
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

They can see there has been oil splashing around but the sump is still full and so is the gearbox?
OK thanks guys, I start it up, no problems and drive down the road with my partner (Jaffa who I called) following, she's flashing her lights, more smoke, I park it and come back later to tow it home.
Still it starts up first time and I park it around the back, there is however no water in the radiator so we put the hose in and fill her up.
As quick as we fill her it pours out from under the manifold where some rubber hoses run.
Now I'm guessing it went like this: Hose blows big time and empties the radiator in a few seconds, the temp gauge has no water to read so it shows cold, now the reserve coolant pours into the hot motor and the gauge reads really hot, the oil is boiling in the sump and the big end bearings are probably toasted.
I took today off and went shopping for a new car, something I loathe almost as much as clothes shopping, still haven't found anything I like, $15k is the limit and I want auto/mid 2000's/a real car not a box with a wheel on each corner.........stay tuned. ;D

Oh come on now...you are on this forum...so that means you HAVE to rebuild and dump lots of money into a vehicle you will never be able to break even on lol. Don't buy a new one...fix the one you have!  :P

But seriously, yeah Bucky is on to something but there is a certain generaion/motor in the suby's that blows head gaskets like you wouldn't believe...our machine shop has a constant flow of suby heads in at all times because of it.

I say go with a Mini Cooper S...but i'm biased lol since I have a 2008.

This entertained me too! ;D I had an old nissan and somehow the muffler virtually disintegrated and plugged itself? Not sure how and I have never seen that since. I got pissed and stomped the gas and the exhaust pressure sent out a smoking, slightly glowing chunk of something! This was 15 years ago and I still remember that chunk! :D

Nissan Sylvia?  Is that with the SR20 or the CA18 engine?  There's a whole market for those engines in the states.  People swap them in for the KA24 in the old 240sx's.

Hush,  US Bureau of prisons has Law Enforcement Status so we get to retire at 50 with 20 years service. Same as FBI.  You are mandatory retirement at 57th birthday.  I also get to carry  my firearm anywhere even on airplanes thruout my retirement.  I was a warden and I think anybody who thinks the Guantanamo inmates are better off in Federal prisons are crazy.  They go from a tropical climate with plenty of sun to Special Housing with 3or 4 hours a week outside their cell including showers and rec time.  The older places are like a dungeon .  I had the first Tower bombers and they sat in solitary for years.  Club FED is 70's urban myth.
