Sorry Dennis, closest one I know of, is 6pkrunner. I live way too far South and I don't drink, so that's 2 counts on me. Bought the strongest things I drink anymore, is Coke, Root Beer and Coffee. :D

           You Go, Dennis! 8)

Personally, I just spent the better part of 30 minutes (seemed like an hour) replacing the messed up driver' remote rear view mirror that the PO cobbled up! ::) Had to straighten out the door where it mounts AND repair things so that I could properly mount the control end as well. The one I took off, was about to Fall off by itself! Not trying to hijack, so I'll get back on the subject at hand. Yeah, I don't blame you, I'd keep the 240 too! Specially since it seems to be in good shape. Myself, IF the PO hadn't of built my 440 like he did, I'd have left it stock and concentrated on ride, handling AND MPG (trans). ;)

Pretty cool "daydream bucky"! 8) That "Cross Ram" Screams Nostalga! ;) Like to have that setup on the 440 in the GTX! I could convince most folks (who wouldn't know better) that it was a 426 Stage III Max Wedge.  Some folks don't know that originally the valve covers had 4 mount bolts instead of 6. That would be a Dead Give A Way, to folks who know. Might be more differences, but I DO know that much! ;D

Tell ya another valuable Mopar Intake is the Edelbrock aluminum 3 duece Holley item that was used on the 440s carrying 3 2barrel Holleys for the 69 1/2 road runners and Super Bees. In 1970, they used a cast iron manifold. ;)

there was a guy in the town i lived in in florida that had a wagon with a 413 and that crossram, and the window sticker that shows it as a factory option.

Oh yeah, they made them at the factory back then and I have seen some Plymouth and Dodge station wagons at the Strip too. Seems like they were mostly '62 and '63 models with a few '64s as well. Those suckers would just LEAP on that starting line! :o 8) ;) If I remember correctly, there were some of the OLD STYLE 383s as well.

Well it looks like the weather may be good enough tomorrow to spend some time working on the Dart!

Actually it was quite mild tonight so while I had the BBQ going I snuck into the garage and changed the plugs. 7 of 8 were VERY carbon covered.

My hope tomorrow is to get it out of the garage so I can properly get underneath it and change the oil and get a better idea of what I am dealing with! I know there is an oil leak and judging by the MC I have a brake leak to source too!

To add to my wiring woes I have discovered when I turn on either blinker, all 4 come on (like the hazards). The oil light (or I assume that is where it is from) is hanging partially disconnected down by the fuse box. I also have to figure out how to wire the SunPro tach with the electronic ignition. I am not sure if it wires into the box or into the distributor so I have to figure that out tomorrow too.

I will likely pull the carb so I can give it a good going over too. My kids are at the grandparents for the weekend so hopefully the new book I bought the wife will keep her busy so I can play in the balmy +2 degree weather! Got a full case of beer and the olympics are on one of the 4 channels I get on the TV in the garage so it should be a good day!!

Well I haven't had as much time as I had hoped to work on it...but I do have better (well at least more current) pics to report with.

The 1 pic gives you a general idea of how it looks now.
The next 2 show you the 2 biggest flaws (cosmetically anyways)

I still need to figure out the rough low idle but I may actually get sometime with it this weekend but I won't get my hopes up just yet as every other time I have gone to do it some thing else pops up!

Here are some shots of the motor. As mentioned above it isn't original to the car and I am still sourcing info and researching.

I am suddenly realizing that although these cars are clearly less complicated I actually know less about them! It is definitely a learning experience though! And that was a big part of why I am tackling it.

Oh and note the ghetto engineering for the coolant overflow container....yeah that's right! It's a 1 litre oil container!!! lol...guess I gotta source an overflow tank too!

The air cleaner is supposed to be in my brother's shop but as a back up I have a chrome one that my dad had on his Bonneville (although I am not certain it will fit).

I am trying to get an understanding of the elctric choke now. To be honest I have never had a vehicle with one! All of my vehicles have either been EFI or manual choke....if anyone can tell me how they work I would appreciate it. I am not sure how to engage it though I gather once it warms it will automatically disengage. However the relay only shows 8.9v currently and I suspect it was miswired but not certain.

Dennis, the electric choke has a coil inside that looks like a spring of sorts. That coil is made of a bi-metal material. In it's cold state will close the choke and as it warms up from the electricity going into it, it slowly opens the choke (using an expanding/ and contracting of that coil. Now, I don't remember if it is wound pretty snug, when cold and starts coming unwound as it heats up or vice versa. At any rate, (IF it is working correctly) the choke will close when you push the accelerator down and release it.

         Look, here is how it should go;

Push the accelerator down (squirts gas into the throat of the carb and sets the choke and also sets the idle speed up some)

Start it up and, as the engine (and the coil in the choke) warms up, the choke will slowly open up and the fast idle cam on the carb, will be backing off and the idle speed will decrease.

Are you MORE confused now? I know how some things work and can tell someone, but to type it out like this, I'm all thumbs. IF working right, I think an electric choke is the best way and less trouble. My $0.02.

Actually Billy that does help!

It gives me a good starting point for this weekend after doing the brakes on the wife's van in preparation for our annual trek down south.

The idle seems way too low and seems to miss. Almost feels like one cylinder isn't firing and causing an off balance or knocking under the floor boards!
I have to check the motor mounts too as it seems to really knock. Hard to describe exactly but it is VERY noticable at low idle.

Dennis,

It's been SOOOOO Long since I've even thought of that sort of choke, I had to do some digging in my old brain and surprising enough,
it (or most of it) cam back to me fairly well. Sometimes I just have a hard time getting across what I'm trying to say. ::)

Hey well done Dennis, that think looks so cool, have fun with it, I reckon you could make some resto money with it, charging old farts like us 10 bucks for a 10 minute ride! (go slow though, it'll probably use that much in gas at "full song") ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

if you need to replace motor mounts get yourself some from energy suspension polyurethane mounts, you wont regret it.

Well I didn't get much time to look at it this weekend. I did get a couple of hours to was some of the grime off etc. I think I have isloated the knock to an unsecured exhaust on the passenger side. I am fairly sure it is hitting the underside.

Also, the motor does have a pretty good shake to it as well. Not sure how much movement is "normal" on a V8 like this but I am guessing that this is too much I will at the very least be checking over the mounts and tightening everything up.

It figures, we are finally getting some decent weather up here and we are about to head down south for 2 weeks. Oh well....looks like progress will be even slower than planned!

Once I get back hopefully my tax return will be in and I can at the very least get the 4 tires and bleed the brakes (Speedbleeders to be ordered if I have the cash) and get it at least safe and road worthy.

That was all my goal was for this year anyways....

One of my all time favorite cars that I have owned is a '66 Valiant 200 wagon. It had a slant 6 with a 3 on the tree...I used to fantasize what it would have been like with a 273 under the hood although it was plenty of fun to drive as it was.

Another thread here started me searching. I haven't checked this site out much Dennis but it might have some good info for you. http://www.valiant.org/index.html There's some good history there and links nonetheless.
