BTW guys, when you get the book, make sure you go on lulu and rate it for Mark.  ;)

We want a signed copy too. Should we just PM you our info at some point?

Please do: keep an eye on the post in the For Sale section for details.  ;)

Does this book only pertain to "k" bikes? How well will it help me keep my "78" SuperSport going the distance?

The "F" bikes came from the "K" bikes: the significant changes were the cam (later and longer duration) and head change (semi-hemi design). The pistons became domed, raising the compression to 9.2:1 over the earlier 9:1. Some cosmetic changes (styling) and the fuel petcock (which was the same as K6) were the only other changes. Oh, and the 630 chain and sprocket setup for the 17" rear tire.

The transmission, besides changing the number of gear teeth on several of the gears, worked identically, and the parts interchange, so long as they are done in sets. The wiring of the "F" was the same as the K5/K6.
The rear brake became a foot-operated disc instead of drum on the later "F" bikes, too. The swingarm was the same as K5 onward.

Besides that, they are identical!  ::)

The only part of the book that does not apply to the "F" bikes after 1976 is the rear brake section.  ;)

It looks like they are selling them to me a little cheaper than to the general public at their site: I suppose that's the way of the world of publishing. See the posts in the For Sale section for the batches I will buy to offer at SOHC4.net. It's more expensive than I would like, but outside of printing them in China or India and waiting 6 months to get them, that's the best deal I can find right now. (And, I refuse to do that in any case...). Plus, they are managing the ISBN stuff so the book can go international for our over-the-waters friends. I sure couldn't do that!  :o

Where is the bowing emoticon?  I will be ordering a hard-back copy to display proudly on my bookshelf and keep me looking out for another 750 of my own (if the wife lets me ;D).  Hopefully it'll help with the argument discussion.

The CB750 book: Not just the text book answers!
« Reply #147 on: February 19, 2010, 09:54:57 PM »
I got my book today (about 10 hours ago).  I got the soft cover version (signed!).  It blows me away.  It is the contagious enthusiasm that strikes me most.  I had no idea the book would be this detailed.  HondaMan delivers on several scores that all other technical texts I've seen miss the mark on. You feel like you're getting the whole story.. not just some "text-book answer" on how to do something.

I guess the reason(s) the book is so wonderful in it's message is really two-fold.  First, there's a fascinating story to tell about a really neat product.  These bikes were a new benchmark from a lot of perspectives.  Secondly, we've got a guy that can narrate the story for us.  He was there.  He assembled/disassembled these things.. had conversations with factory reps.. sold them.. rode them.. raced them.. toured them.. mended the abused.. understood them.. and dare I say.. loved them.

If you own one of these bikes, you owe it to yourself to get the book.  Beg, borrow or steal... but get one.  If you want to maintain, restore, get more horses, understand, make it better at twisties, this book is for you.

There are tons of pictures.  It's about 260 pages.  It's 8.5" by 11".  The layout is very nice.  You get details, history, tendencies, recommendations, strengths, weaknesses... all based on real world experience.  It's just so different than other technical books I've seen.

Thanks Mark!
