750 K8 Stinker rebuild!
« on: January 31, 2010, 06:56:05 AM »
Hi Guys, the penny has dropped ,I have finally figured out how to do the pic thing,I bought this 78 k a couple of years ago and it has sat unloved in my shop until recently, this will be my roadbike this year,I have a thing for XS650s too,but thats another story.I bought the bike as a non runner,it had been dropped on the left side damaging the case, the seat is some fibreglass affair which Ive cut down,i have some rearsets and switched to a Supersport tank, running 18'' flanged rims front and rear,I'll post more pics soon, cheers,Mick

I bought the rims from Central wheel in the UK,they are Morad, the company that bought the Akront company tooling.

George
Found this bike in completely stock condition in Feb. 08. Paid over twice what my new one cost 30 years ago. Am trying to re-create the look of the late 70's Drag Bike styling.More later. 4-2-10 It ain't stock any more and I have no idea what I am trying to create !

I want to get a better look at that tail (the bikes ;D), looks kina like a tracker which is what I am slowly doing to my K8. I dont like the term Frankenbike, but I plan on a hybrid cafe-tracker, with viper fairing, clubmans, rearsets, lowered, street tracker style seat/fender combo, looks good in my mind , we'll see!
As far as multiple pic posting I dont use photo  bucket, but have no probs posting from my picture folders in the c drive.
Again nice work !

I hear you George,my last bike (VTR1000) had clip-ons,it was a complete nightmare to ride for more than 20 mins!,I decided that the Honda would have rearsets but keep upright bars for more comfort,I am planning to get the rolling chassis done and fettled and see how the motor works this season. My old Kamakaze street tracker ,I felt lacked power so I put in the 750 kit and the cam only to find the rev range moved way ahead and the thing begged to be ridden much harder....the speed limit here in Canada is 50mph,so the stock(ish) motor was better suited ! live and learn.Cheers,Mick

A close up of the rear wheel, new bearings and drilled the flanges on my drill press ( pillar drill for my fellow Brits)ala CR750 ,sprayed the backing plate with Caliper paint from Canadian Tyre, using the worn race rubber from the trackbike. ;D

Got the seat unit back from my mate the other day ,I cut 6 inches out of it and he bonded it back together as he does boat repairs,i was eager for this to come back as I wanted to fabricate the bracket to hold it on at the rear of the frame and make the ears for the turn signals,i just cut them out of 3/16ths stock and drilled them for weight/looks and welded it all up.I used the rear frame crossbrace but shortened the frame 4''.I modified the stock plastic innner fender to clear the turn signals and look right

Mocked up the new(to me!) pipes ,will start making rearset brackets this week, got the front brakes all together over the weekend and bled them up,used new seals ,new nipples, new ss lines, beadblasted and resprayed calipers,Ferodo platinum pads, toying with the idea of turning them opposite way behind the fork legs...kinda like the period look though! ;)
