Topic: seal question

I am currently replaceing my shifter shaft seal and I can't figure out from the drawing(clymer) which way the seal goes in. Should i be able to see the spring or not?

Remove the shifter. Take a small screwdriver and pry the seal out without gouging the shift shaft. The seal should be installed with the lettering facing you. If you are taking about the spring over the back of the seal, then this goes toward the engine.
