« on: January 31, 2010, 11:20:24 AM »
anyone here had any experience with the squier affinity telecasters? i had someone offer me a brand new one in trade for the frontman 25 amplifier i've been trying to sell. this guitar still has all the protective plastic on it.

I tend to like telecasters so I looked this one up because it sounded familiar to me. I remember trying one of those out at a local store a while back. For me, I loved the price obviously, since it was well under $200 out the door but the other thing was, the low action feel and the thinner neck. I have much smaller hands than you, I'm sure, so I could get some good play out of it right off the bat without having to make adjustments for "woman hands".  ;D I love my Ovation electric acoustic and my Les Paul but I worry about messing them up. This one sounds good, feels good and wouldn't break my heart if something happened to it.

I think it's all in what you like to play, the individual feel for your hands and if you plan on just flipping it for something else or keeping it. I had a ball with it on just a simple little amp in the store. I'm no rock star by any means and haven't played either of my current guitars for a while now, but I would probably consider spending the loot on that one for a cheaper version of a tele when I finally get some more time to play again. (hopefully soon)

I think you decide if it's a good deal by what you are giving up. What is your amp worth to you or someone else? New in the store, the tele goes for around $170 I think. New in someone's house is $120. Still in the plastic is nice but what temps/humidity/children/pets.... did he keep it in? That drops the value for me, especially since he hasn't even bothered to play it since buying it. He may not appreciate it like you would. I look around people's digs to get an idea if they are telling me the whole truth about how something was treated.  ;)  :)

I hav' ta agree with mickey X, I played a Squier Strat for some time, and it played and felt great.  but the sound was "original". Sorry I sold it. If it feels good in your hands...nuff said.

well, the new (to me) squier tele in arctic white will be here about lunchtime tomorrow. i thought seriously about keeping the frontman 25 for when i travel but i NEVER travel LOL. this one even comes with a set of new, uninstalled locking grover tuners. this will be the last guitar i'll ever get, unless a ventures model mosrite ever falls down out of the sky into my hands for a cheap price and i cant tell you the last time i saw a flying mosrite. :D

i know that theyre the cheapest of guitars but i have got to say that i'm really enjoying this affinity Telecaster. the tuning machines keep it in tune no matter how hard i play, it feels pretty solid and sturdy and even the electrics dont sound bad. i might possibly change the pickups some day but i have to say i've really become a fan of squier guitars. sure theyre not american made fenders but for someone like me, who will likely never play professionally, these guitars are more than adequate. i spent about 45 minutes getting the truss rod and bridge set just right for the strings i use and the neck is nice and quick, great shape for someone with giant hands like i have. pics to follow when i can get the wife to remember to pick up batteries for me.
