CB550 shift drum retaining bracket looks bent, badly?
« on: February 03, 2010, 04:34:38 AM »
I'm tearing down a 76 CB550F for rebuild, I found the shift drum retainer badly bent. So I took another 550 apart and found the same thing, just alot less bent. So is this normal? Or is there something I need to take a closer look at?

just checked my 76cb550k retainer, not bent as much.  the nearby threaded insert moves in/out just a bit.  the retainer seems to limit this movement to about 1/32 proud of the case.

That end of the retainer prevents the shifter fork shaft from coming out of the case. It should be straight but as shoemaniii said does not touch the shaft .
