Topic: just getting started,

Hey, I just got my first motorcycle project.1978 CB750 f.Its a bit rough but I payed 300.00 and it is complete.Dose not run though.Anyways I was going to restore the bike and started looking on line and noticed all these cafe bikes,I guess this is the direction Ill go.
So I guess I would like to know what first,I was wondering about so cheep mods,Should I run pods,The pipes where cut off at an angle,Can this hurt the motor? If so how do I heck for damage.And how do I put picks on here? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site.

You can go any way on the carbs, as many here have done it all.

My advice, is to keep the stock airbox, ....maybe modify and put a K&N filter on the inlet like I did.

You have the last of the SOHC 750's.....in 1979 they went to a Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) engine.

If you tank is free of rust....I suggest Sean at Roc City Cusotms for a cafe seat.

As for exhaust...hard to say, as it really depends on if the engine still has any backpressure.  And...if the sound is ok to your ears.

The BEST is to get a Yoshimura style 4 into 1 exhasut from Carpy over at his place 750cafe.com.

Of course it is expensive!

EDIT....Indy is right....get it running FIRST, and make sure you have something there.

Absolutely agree with this.  Get it running before you dive in with changes, otherwise you'll have trouble knowing if issues are caused by your mods or by something else.

You'll probably need to clean the carbs also.

Carpys pipes look like a deal andsound good to.?,Is that the way they some on a stocker or does the motor have to be moded to sound that good??

 it has a better gear ratio. and apparently, according to this site "minor engine changes"
(that minor change is where Honda installed the "THUNDER" into the crank case)
