Getting started on my Cafe 750 SOHC
« on: January 01, 2010, 12:39:31 PM »
I have started getting parts for my Honda 750 Cafe  :). I am doing this project on the cheap and hope to have $1000 or less in it when completed ??? ???. I purchased a 1977 750 from the junkyard close to Columbus Ohio for $100. It needed the following, complete front end.... wheels, brakes, fork, triple tree, instruments, bars, levers, the whole works. Also missing was the exhaust, seat, rear wheel and brake, and battery. So far I have gotten the instruments, controls, levers, even handlebar, and cables from a buddy of mine for free. Yesterday I bought a front end (triple trees, tubes, lowers, and a couple of brake brackets for $54 (delivered) on eBay. Today, I ordered a cafe seat from Steve Carpenter which will bolt up to my stock seat hinges...$155 delivered. After I ordered the seat I got on the phone and called in a favor to get a set of wheels for free (wire spokes, wheels, and hubs). So far only $309 invested and I am getting closer. I figure maybe $80 for my upholstery, maybe cheaper if I can get my pal at the shoe repair to do it for me. Will lurk on eBay until I find brake calipers for under $50 (with pads, I hope). I think I can get some new Dunlops 404s' for about $110-130 a set. Paint..... red color.... tank, seat and fenders.....$150-200....done by my friend Pat Tackett. Exhaust system..... will get pipes on eBay and go with some megaphones and paint the whole thing semi-gloss black..... about $200... maybe a little less. Battery... about $30.Total of $999, using the high estimates for the parts. Can I do it???? Stay tuned for my updates. Pics will follow as soon as it gets warm enough for me to get in my shop....so.... stay tuned for more installments  ;D ;D ;D ;D.....Dew.

I got my cafe seat from Carpy today...... VERY HIGH QUALITY piece. I recommend his seats above those eBay seats. A friend of mine buys his from an ebay seller... they cost the same, but Carpy's seats are much, much, better. They are on his website..... check em' out  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.....Dewey Greear.
