can anyone possibly identify these tuning machines?

theyre 3 to a side type (like on les-paul and SG) and theyre sealed. i dont know anything at all where they were purchased, no stamps giving brand or model.

They look like Klusons off a Gibson.

here is a detail shot of the side that is against the headstock. the construction is stamped metal, steel i assume.

They still look like Klusons.  The ones on my ES-330 look the same except they have white plastic knobs and have Kluson stamped on them.

Maybe they are asian copies?

possibly. so in all likelyhood i got some decent tuners in trade for, what to me anyways, was trash a neck from a jay turser telecaster. god i love Craigslist.

All the sealed Klusons with covers similar to the machines shown have "Kluson" on them, at least all the ones I've ever seen. The ones that look like Klusons on lower Gibson models from the '90's and '00's that say "Gibson" are not Klusons, but Asian. I believe the ones shown here are as well. Unfortunately, the Asian ones I have experience with are poor substitutes for Klusons, which I believe are now sold by TonePros.

I have 6 Japanese guitars and all have gotoh Kluson type machine heads and they are every bit as good or better than the Klusons. There are some poor quality ones on the market but definitely not all of them, the poor quality ones are usually found on cheap guitars.

these have no brand name on them and it's definetly stamped metal of some kind and what looks like a small hole for lubrication maybe?

I agree with you, I'm a dolt and overlooked the Gotoh copies which are good. I don't think there is any printing on the gear cover on those, is there?

no to the gotohs, there was a thin decal in the round part on gotohs on my Danelectro.

Not all the Gotoh's have identifying marks, actually i just checked all mine and only one set has markings on them.



This is my excellent Tokai strat and these gotoh tuners have "deluxe" stamped on them but my Les Pauls are all blank like Bucky's.
