anyone know of a souce for a proper hone?

Got a bunch of master cylinders, that I would like to strip & inspect, and then sell.

I don't know where to get a 10mm hone, but what kind of master cylinders ya got?  I'd like to have a 10 or 11 (prefer an 11) but all I am finding is newer looking stuff.  I'd like something that looks period for a K2 750.

Most of them are for sohc up to 76 , maybe a few that are 77/78.

I just want to inpect and make sure they are good before I sell them, if I can hone them even better. I  have the right circlip pliers, so they wont get all gurfed up thaking them apart..

Ummm, isn't a sohc cylinder 14mm  Or did the 750 use something different than the smaller bikes?

Be very careful with a hone on aluminum bores.  I almost destroyed a master cyl trying to hone it because the material is really <really> soft and damages easily.  I was able to get a standard brake cyl hone to go in, but it was really too tight to begin with. Made about three revolutions and realised it was a bad idea.

Will check size, I know 14mm is the size of the Fmodel rear ones.

I am only certain that the 77 CB550 is 14mm.

When I did the MC on my bike I used a split mandrel from a cheapie head porting kit I have. I threaded a strip of schotchbrite into it, worked like a charm.

Well I was wrong! WRONG as the day is Long..

loks like it must be 12 or 14mm.

 I could hone them with a split shaft, but would rather have proper tooling. I was just thinking that an inspected, cleaned , honed mc.. ready to take a kit would bring a better buck and come with piece of mind...rather than buying an unknown condition one..

I'm sure its 14 with the Wing being 17

That sounds right, 14mm master cylinder bore with a 38mm piston in the caliper, which yields a rather wooden ratio of 7.37 to 1 with a single disc and 14.73 to 1 with a dual disc setup   That is why I was curious if you had 10mm or 11mm cylinders, that would give me a more gradual ratio of 14-11 with a single disc and 28-23 with duals.  Oh well, Mikes XS has a slick slimline 11mm cylinder that just might work

I don't think SOHC4 cylinders usually suffer to much from pitting Frank, I'd suggest that you pull them apart and take a peek first, I've been able to rebuild every one I pulled apart, without any problems.

If you want to really make some money on them, rebuild them and sell them as such, it's been my experience that most folk would rather pay extra for a "rebuilt" item, than a "rebuildable" one. Cheers, Terry.

Just as I was gonna reply, I noticed Bert's avatar, and forgot what I was gonna reply about!

Oh that's right, hones. Those flexhones are very good, I've got an engine cylinder one here, and I find it works very well.

I still don't think you need one for our bikes, but if you're gonna, that's the tool to do it!

The guys over at Motorcycle Classics used fine grit emery cloth wrapped around rubber hose when they rebuilt the mc on their CB500 cafe build. You can find the article and pics on their site
