Thoughts on paint scheme?
« on: February 10, 2010, 11:35:20 AM »
I have been slowly working on my 77 supersport. I'm to the point where i need to get it painted. Right now The tail is in primer, I have no sidecovers, and the tank is bare metal. I plan on getting the LPM sidecovers.

As far as the color goes, I have my heart set on Milano red, Which was an OEM color on 99-00 civic si's. I have one, and absolutly love the shade of red.

It really needs something to break it up though, and i love the factory stripe. What would you all think of the same shape and size of the factory tank stripe, only in white? Other ideas for striping? I've seen the F's with the raised portion of the tank painted as a stripe, which looks good, but i would rather have something a little different.

Have you seen the nice red 750F tank that Terry in Australia did? (scoll down a bit)

How about 750F style stripes using a gold-black-white stripe color combination with your Milano Red?

Note the red-gold-black-white color combination on this 750K tank:

I will be re-painting my 78F tank soon. I really like the look of the stock graphic (very "hotrod" looking). So, I am going to re-do the scallops in paint and pinstripe. Haven't quite decided on the color scheme yet, but I am leaning towards a a light flake or heavy pearl true blue color with a red scallops (also pearl), and white or gold stripe. I never make up my mind until I fire up the booth and spray gun anyway (a little of this, a little of that.....).  ;)

I did this one in HOK candy root beer with painted stripes.
Be sure to burnish tape down well to prevent bleed between highly contrasted colors/shades!

You're Welcome! That is a good looking tank ;D

Add a super thin white pinstripe or line into your red paint theme for something a little different?

I searched the net and saw that Milano red color, i like it! that should look great on your bike. i also agree with you that the original stripe in white would be the way to go. i just had my bike repainted in a non original color and I was torn was to what color to have the tank stripe done in. ended up going with the white and very happy with the results. i vote stick to your first choice. can't wait to see your bike after the new paint.

I love HOK root beer. My next build might see that color. It's not really gonna fit with the style i'm going with on the F though. Beautiful tank and striping! My girlfriend is building a CB200T, She wants a similar pattern to that. Lime green with black sides on the tank. If you haven't seen a CB200 tank, It's the most toaster looking toaster tank ever lol.

Yeah I posted it primarily to show a stock scheme, only done with paint and no stickers.
Was tougher that it looks, because of the black/white together.
All of the HOK paints rock!
Thanks for the props and good luck on yours.
