the last trans am i owned, a 1979 special edition (smokey and the bandit car) had a combination am/fm/8 track/ cb radio in it. as much as i wanted to put a modern cd player in it i just couldnt force myself to do it. that was a great car.

I actually feel a little guilty in a way about having a modern CD/head unit in my Dart. I toyed with trying to find something more vintage but then I saw the prices!!! I think I will keep the Panasonic and just a few bucks into new kickpanels and speakers and maybe add a small sub. If it's going to be modern it may as well sound good!

when i had my galaxie, i kept the factory radio in it. even kept it hooked up, powering the little speaker in the dash. the alpine cd head unit was mounted in a plexi plate i mounted in the glovebox. a computer cooling fan kept things cool enough for the alpine.

Now, I just happen to have an Audiovox AM/FM/8Track/CBRadio, that is BRAND NEW In The Box (never been installed), that I am thinking about putting in the GTX! 8) ;) AND, the price was RIGHT! :o You see, when I worked in Parts, at the local GMC dealership, ever so often, the Part Manager would arrange to take us to Lunch after our Half day of work on a particular Saturday, then we'd go back and go through the parts room (with HIM taking parts that he thought had been there long enough) and remove what he selected. ALL the stuff he removed, was supposed to go in the dumpster. Now, he didn't really care what happened to those items (as long as they didn't end up back in the parts room)! Myself, I brought home that radio and 2 others (AM/FM, but nothing fancy). I got some hardware that could come in handy, a new, in the box, set of bed rails and misc other things. When I got home and looked through the stuff, I was amazed wwhen I opened that one box and found the Audiovox AM/FM/8 Track/40 channel CB Radio! :o Now, I have yet to hook it up to see if it still works. If It works, I'll have to fab up a custom mount for it. No Way am I going to mess with the GTX's factory mounts and faceplate. That stuff ain't cheap! :-X

When we still had Brenda's road runner (which became mine, when I bought her that new 76' Volare' road runner), she got me a new Motorola 8 track player that I installed in the dash, after I removed the ashtray! Fit like a glove! 8) ;)

I love vinyl and I had heard about these players and sure enough ebay had one listed.  I can only imagine how horrible this thing sounded.

I don't know about that one, but a buddy of mine in High School had a 45rpm record player in his '62 SS Impala and that thing played very well AND would not skip while going down the road! I think HIS was a Motorola though. Thing is, it took up a lot of space. ::)

That is pretty cool.  I have heard of them but I have never met anyone who had one.  I can only imagine the carnage if you left your 45's out in your car on a hot day.  It seems like you would be spending a lot of time swapping them out.
